Ashen is a linear sous-like adventure with a buddy.

Ashen is an open world, souls like type of game. It isn't a AAA souls game and it's obvious, but if you can get past some of the technical issues, you have a solid action-rpg on your hands. You can play Ashen with one friend (or a computer ally) if you would like. However, that person has to basically be at the same level you are and he can't have already defeated the area boss. I played and completed the whole entire game with one friend. You can upgrade weapons, talk to NPCS who will help you build up your sanctuary area. The whole game was tough but the bosses weren't really that difficult until the very end game bosses. There are some things I wish they paid more attention to in the SOULS games like when enemies AUTO-TARGET you, it's way more difficult to dodge roll out of the way in this game, because they turn slightly to face in your direction giving them an unfair advantage the SOULS series doesn't have. Big enemies can also run like a bat out of hell to catch up to you. Stamina is another huge issue in this game. Stamina is used for walking, running, attacking, throwing spears, dodging.. everything consumes stamina and it almost because overwhelming with the consumption. Also, Ashen is very linear. You literally go from point A on the map all the way down to point B the end game. I hope if they ever make a sequel they improve the level design. All in all I did have fun co-oping with my buddy and destroying countless foes and making my way to the very end of the game. Ashen has its moments of WTF but it's still enjoyable.
