Earlier this year, social gaming giant Zynga went public, filing for an initial public offering of stock in the company with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Today, the company revealed one of its most popular Facebook free-to-play social games, Mafia Wars, will be getting a sequel. The announcement came via a launch trailer for Mafia Wars 2 on Zynga's YouTube page.

Mafia Wars 2,
Mafia Wars 2, "coming soon."

The trailer doesn't reveal much about the upcoming game; it simply highlights elements of the story with images portraying violence, money, women, and gambling. It also reveals that the objective of the game will be to try to build the biggest crime empire in Las Vegas.

Zynga has not revealed any other details about Mafia Wars 2. It simply stated that the game is "coming soon" and that it will be Zynga's "most immersive game to date." Users who "Like" the game's Facebook page will get access to unlock limited-edition in-game items when Mafia Wars 2 is released.

In 2010, Zynga reported revenues of more than $597 million, with a current cumulative user base of 232 million active players a month. In April, Zynga hired EA's COO John Schappert.
