Tears of the Kingdom recipes are there to keep Link happy and healthy in any number of difficult situations. The most basic of recipes in his cookbook restore a few hearts in Link’s health meter, but if you add the right ingredients in the right amount, you can buff Link's defense, pump up his attack, and even keep him safe in harsh weather.
We'll be updating this list as we find more, but for now, here's what you can get cooking with and how to get started.
How to cook in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
You have two options for cooking in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and while the Great Sky Island has two stewards who teach you the basics, it’s easy to miss them if you aren’t exploring every inch of the island.
The crudest and least effective cooking method is dropping food items in front of an open fire. That can be a campfire made using a bundle of wood or the raging inferno that used to be a field until you accidentally dropped your lit torch on the ground. After your ingredients bask in the fire’s warmth for a few seconds, they turn into a roasted variant of themselves--roasted meat, roasted apples, and so on.
Roasted items only restore a small amount of health, and you get few, if any, benefits from the ingredients’ unique properties.
The better way to cook is using a cooking pot. These pots are conveniently scattered across Hyrule and the skies, though you’re guaranteed to find one at every stable as well. Using a cooking pot is the only way to combine ingredients and the only way to brew elixirs from monster parts and critters.
To use a cooking pot, open your inventory, and select the ingredients you want to use. You can add up to five, and how much you add may determine the effect you get. Cooking one Rushroom provides a low-level speed boost that lasts for a short time, for example, but if you cook three, the boost lasts for longer. Rarer ingredients tend to offer stronger effects as well. The Staminoka Bass gives you a better stamina buff than the Stamella Mushroom or the stamina onion bulb.
Any successful recipe will add itself to your recipe log, which you can check by pressing “A” to select an ingredient and choosing "Check Recipe."
