Zelda: Skyward Sword Available on Wii U eShop Today
Play the earliest game in the Zelda timeline, ahead of Breath of the Wild.
Nintendo has announced The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will be available today on the Wii U eShop. The announcement was made during the latest Nintendo Direct presentation by Nintendo of America exec Reggie Fils-Aime.
Nintendo didn't mention any further information on the re-release, so it seems there will not be any changes made to the game such as visual improvements or gameplay tweaks. Instead it seems to be the original version of the game for Nintendo's current home console.
It is unclear as of yet if it's possible to play the game without the use of a Wii Remote.
The re-release is part of Nintendo's Legend of Zelda 30th Anniversary celebration, which also includes four new amiibo figures: 8-Bit Link, Ocarina of Time Link, and a two-pack with Toon Link and Zelda from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.
The amiibo will function like the Super Smash Bros. versions of Link, Toon Link, and Zelda, but will have functionality in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild when it launches in 2017. These amiibo will be available from December 2.
In GameSpot's The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword review, the game was awarded a score of 7.5.
"The good elements do outweigh the bad in Skyward Sword, creating another engrossing experience in this venerable franchise. Strong visual design meshes the cartoony world of Wind Waker with the more realistic approach offered by Twilight Princess, and the riveting orchestral soundtrack brings back many classic tracks while offering a few tasty new ones," said critic Tom McShea
"However, the formula is beginning to show its age. There just aren't enough new ideas to separate Skyward Sword from its predecessors, and the few additions come with mixed results. Even with many bright spots, Skyward Sword still feels like a nostalgic retread. Those yearning for something new will be disappointed, but anyone thirsty for another exciting adventure will find plenty to enjoy here."
