Zelda-Like Game Oceanhorn Confirmed For Nintendo Switch

It will "run beautifully on the powerful Switch," publisher says.

After a tease last year, it has now been confirmed that the Zelda-like RPG Oceanhorn is headed to Nintendo Switch. In its announcement about the game crossing 1 million sales last year, publisher FDG Entertainment said Oceanhorn was coming to a "Nintendo console," which we now know is Switch.

The confirmation came today on Twitter (via DualShockers), with FDG saying the game will run "beautifully on the powerful Switch." A release date wasn't announced beyond sometime in 2017; the Switch comes out on March 3, with Nintendo's own Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as a launch title.

Oceanhorn is already available on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4; a Vita version is on the way. GameSpot's review scored the game a 5/10.

Developer Cornfox & Bros announced a sequel back in August 2016. Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm utilizes a third-person camera, as opposed to the top-down perspective of the first game.

Despite this change, Cornfox said it would be "built upon the same elements that were the heart and soul of the first Oceanhorn game: exploring a colorful world, a deep backstory with secrets and twists, amazing music, and most importantly, classic action-RPG gameplay with items, puzzles, battles, and badass bosses."

That 'run beautifully' line might make it for stupidest gaming quote of 2017, we shall see.

@deathwish026: People grow up. Being pro gaming doesn't mean you should computer illiterate. It's a $400 tablet, that comes with a Bluetooth controller and a docking station. Look, another old game with bad reviews is going to be released on it. Very impressive.
Anyone who can admit they still live in the real world can see this console is an overpriced tablet, with no target market. If you have no concept of how a computer works, or what an ARM processor is, I can understand why you think this is a good product.

It's a tablet.

@bc2999: *people grow up* yet everything else in your comment points towards whiney baby. nintendo said a while back that they wanted to make a tablet based console and thats what they have delivered. just because its a tablet does not mean it will be a bad thing.

it has more graphical power than all the consoles before it so its more than capable of making decent looking games.

a game has some bad reviews therefore the world should forget about it ? if that were the case steam would only have 5 games on it.

yes. its a tablet. ever played mariokart at 60 fps on a tablet before ? impressive!

From their own review "It's still a fundamentally unimaginative example of the genre it's aping, and completely fades out of memory the second you remember there are other fish in the sea." Soooooo... why is this news?

Isn't powerful and Nintendo switch being used in the same sentence an oxymoron? My three year old smartphone could probably run this game.

Speaking of "later this year".......I think that is when it makes the most sense to pick up a Switch......maybe even "early next year"

It's a decent Zelda-like that plays mostly like A Link to the Past or Minish Cap. Just because the game has a sailboat doesn't make it a Wind Waker knock-off.

I think it's great that they're porting mobile titles over to the Switch. There are a lot of mobile titles I'd rather play with a controller that I might otherwise pass on if it were just touch like on my phone.

That being said, it's coming to Vita too and I'll probably pick it up there rather than drop $300 yet for el Switch-o. I'm guessing it will "run beautifully" on the Vita too lol.

@unight: Your phone/tablet supports Bluetooth and supports Bluetooth controllers. All of them do. And so do a lot of mobile games. There are plenty of phone controller/cases out there.

@bc2999:The Bluetooth controllers for phones that I've seen look like clunky extensions, I would appreciate a device that has the controls built in and buttons pre-mapped to the hardware and optimized by the developer.

But yes, Bluetooth controllers are definitely an option and a great addition if you don't mind attaching hardware to your phone. I would love to see phones with joycon attachments like the switch that you can easily snap onto your device when you want to play. I think that's Sony's next move, to redesign their phones to have optional attachments for gaming, combining their Playstation library of games but still running Android based OS and having access to the Google Play store for apps. Do it Sony!

@shuya82: hi thanks for the reply :)

Though your entitled to your opinion, not owning it or having played it do you think your in a position to make a comment like you have?.

If your a fan of zelda or these kinds of games this should please and on Nintendo which brought zelda i would say its a smart move.

Ill agree its similar in style to some degree to zelda, however there have been many different zelda's with different art styles, looks and even 8 bit visuals from earlier in the series.

You could argue other well known titles look similar, if im right this was released on mobile devices first maybe trying to bring an appeal of zelda to the fans or rpg's, it ported to consoles after and was well received, now its moving to switch, of course its going to be compared to the popular rpg so well known on its systems like you have.

lol sorry i got carried away there

@shuya82: no I know ur not trying to start an arguenent, ? I enjoy talking about it (if u don't mind chatting)

ur original point is it's a rip off of Zelda, it's a mobile indie title ported and Nintendo could have said no anytime then so does that mean there are enough differences from Zelda?, Nintendo seem to think so or they would have stopped it as u have quite rightly stated?.

with respect I do see what ur saying it is similar in some aspects of style.

??

@shuya82: i agree totally, they have and in a way i kinda see your point it does look very familiar to later zelda games.

Its not a bad game at all and the price is great.

@presstart2bgin: To be fair, Final Fantasy XIII 1-3 were ported to iOS and Android in Japan. The difference between mobile and console is shrinking all the time.

@thehaxfactory: Except it's not shrinking at all:

PS4 ($299) = 1.84 TFLOPS

PS4 Pro ($399) = 4.2 TFLOPS

iPhone 7 ($699) = 0.6 TFLOPS.
