We now might know a little more about Nintendo's highly anticipated RPG, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. In an interview with IGN Portugal, series producer Eiji Aonuma reportedly said the game will have an alternate ending while Link's trusty steed, Epona, might be in the game.

"There is an alternate ending if you meet certain criteria. If you do a few things, you may see a different ending," Aonuma said, as reported by DualShockers.

Aonuma also told IGN that Epona is in Breath of the Wild but he declined to share more details about where she's located or anything else. "As for Epona, she's in Breath of the Wild, but I do not want to reveal details about how to find her, or what that means," he said.

Breath of the Wild releases on March 3 as a launch title for the Nintendo Switch. The game is also coming to the Wii U and might be that system's final game from Nintendo.

In other Breath of the Wild news, a list of the differences between the Switch and Wii U versions has been confirmed,

It's funny, because if I finish the game, do I care how it really ends exactly, I mean it ends, game over.

Any word on when in the timeline this story takes place?

Epona is in both OoT and TP, and those games are hundreds of years apart. I guess Epona gets reincarnated, too(?)

Epona is just a horse. I don't get it. I don't follow Zelda super closely or anything like that but has Epona ever not been just a horse? Like I mean has Epona ever been a defined character? I bet someone built a grave for Epona and that's where you'll find it.

Now I'm wondering if its a ho-hum ending and actual decent ending situation, or just different choices.

@snugglebear: Guess that's for us to find out. It will be interesting to see. My guess is if you go and beat the final boss before finishing all the dungeons or something you get a different ending. Still that may be to obvious.

@Strategizer: I'm really hoping the difference isn't beating a 100 floor pit dungeon where you can't heal up easily.

@snugglebear: In agreement there. For me though the alternate ending will be gravy. I just can't wait to finally play around in this Hyrule (or whatever they are calling it but it still looks Hyrule to me. If I'm wrong sorry I've been trying to avoid plot and location info till I can finally play it.)

I'm guessing all the Link's traditional items are in the game, but are probably unlocked by completing a quest. Epona just being another one to add to the list. I'm also going to guess the green tunic, hylian shield, and possibly his hat is hidden somewhere.

I also have to stop reading articles like this, I'm gonna ruin most of the surprises that way.

Very interesting. I wonder what kind of alternate ending we are talking about. Something small like majors mask like if you collect all the masks and get The Fierce Deity's Mask, which makes the last boss fight a breeze or are we talking Witcher 3 type alternate ending. Very interesting indeed.

Just out of curiosity, is this the first time Zelda has been a launch title for anything?

@videogameninja:

Nope. :)

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was a launch title for the Wii.

@jumpaction: I was gonna add A Link to the Past, but then I recalled that the SNES came out in late summer 1991 in the US.... A Link to the Past was released that November. So, it's CLOSE to be a launch title, but I don't think it counts. Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild are the only ones.

@Xirtahm:

There are a few The Legend of Zelda games released within months of a console launch. Like you mentioned, there is A Link to the Past but also Ocarina of Time 3D on 3DS. :)
