There's been a resurgence of anime shows getting a fresh lease on life through new Blu-ray releases, including the classic anime series Yu Yu Hakusho. A popular anime series that was on the airwaves in the early 1990s, the Yu Yu Hakusho 30th Anniversary Blu-ray box set just got a nice discount at Amazon and is now available for $100.

This is the entire anime run of the occult classic plus several extras, making it an easy gift idea for anyone with an anime fan in their life. In total, you're getting all four seasons of Yu Yu Hakusho--112 episodes in total--across 17 discs, all remastered in 1080p. For extras, there are new dubs of the original video animations, Two Shots and All or Nothing, actor commentary, technical crew commentary, outtakes, textless openings, and more.

Yu Yu Hakusho was different from the usual Shonen anime of the time, as it focused on fourteen-year-old punk Yusuke, a high school delinquent who performs an uncharacteristic act of self-sacrifice. With the afterlife unprepared for this, Yusuke soon finds work as a spirit detective who stop demons and humans with aspirations of ruling the three realms of reality. From there, the show expands in big and unexpected ways, with new cast members, story arcs, and startling revelations across all four of its seasons.

It's worth mentioning that this box set features 4:3 aspect ratio versions of the original episodes. Given the show was produced before the advent of widescreen TVs, this isn't surprising. That said, you can expect fresh colors, upgraded audio, and hand-drawn animation that has stood the test of time. The box set itself also looks great, and features multiple cast members of Yu Yu Hakusho decorating the covers and slipcase.
