YouTuber Bradley Hall has released an incredibly ambitious video in which he covers the entire The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring as one three-hour metal guitar cover, and it's incredible.

Hall played his metal renditions of Howard Shore's iconic music on top of the Fellowship of the Ring's extended Blu-ray edition. The movie scenes are displayed in the background but are blurred out to avoid getting removed from YouTube over rights issues, Hall said (via Guitarworld). Some audio and dialogue from the film is still audible, though, due to how it was recorded.

"I imported my 5.1 surround-sound version of the Blu-ray into Reaper so I could split the audio tracks up into separate channels. The majority of the dialogue is in a single channel, so I could mute it and be left with an almost-instrumental version of the movie," Hall said. "I then had to painstakingly tempo-map the entire movie audio to a grid so that I could program drums over it. Once tempo-mapping was done it was "just" a case of laying-down all the drums and guitars. Thankfully I had the orchestral score as a reference guide which sped-up the process significantly!"

The entire process of tempo-mapping, recording, mixing, filming, and editing took months, Hall said, noting that he didn't change t-shirts the entire time (during filming and recording at least) as a means to help him stay driven to finish the video.

The musician doesn't plan to follow this up with similar videos for The Two Towers and Return of the King. "Absolutely not! I may do another movie in the future but DEFINITELY not one as long as this again," Hall said.

The Fellowship of the Ring celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2021, with an epic 31-disc compilation pack to mark the occasion. The franchise is still going strong, with Amazon set to release its new Lord of the Rings series this September. The show is called The Rings of Power, and you can check out the first teaser now. Outside of that, a new animated Lord of the Rings movie is on the way, while a video game focused on Gollum is in development.
