You Can Now Import Rock Band 1's Soundtrack Into Rock Band 4

But right now, the option is only available to PlayStation 4 owners who live in North America.

Owners of the original Rock Band looking to bring that game's songs into Rock Band 4 now can, provided they meet a few requirements. Harmonix announced this week that the Rock Band export option for Rock Band 4 is now available for PlayStation 4 users in North America. In a support forum post, the developer said it's working to bring the feature to PS4 players in Europe and Xbox One owners.

Additionally, to export Rock Band's songs into Rock Band 4, you needed to have purchased an export option; it was sold for a period of five years but is no longer available to buy. Also note that the export process only works within the same console family; i.e. PS3-to-PS4.

A total of 47 Rock Band tracks are available to export into Rock Band 4, while the eight additional songs listed below will be available "at a later time."

  1. Anarchy Club - "Blood Doll"
  2. Bang Camaro - "Pleasure (Pleasure)"
  3. Death of the Cool - "Can't Let Go"
  4. Freezepop - "Brainpower"
  5. Honest Bob and the Factory-to-Dealer Incentives - "I Get By"
  6. The Acro-brats - "Day Late, Dollar Short"
  7. Tribe - "Outside"
  8. VAGIANT - "Seven"

Harmonix also notes that three songs from Rock Band's setlist will never be able to be exported, presumably due to licensing arrangements. These songs are:

  1. Black Sabbath – "Paranoid"
  2. Iron Maiden – "Run to the Hills"
  3. Metallica – "Enter Sandman"

The export process itself involves downloading every song individually, something Harmonix says you'll want to do on a stable Internet connection for the best results. A full set of export instructions are available here.

Rock Band 4 added the ability to export Rock Band 3 songs into the game in December. In the future, the plan is for songs from Rock Band 2, Lego Rock Band, and Green Day: Rock Band (but never The Beatles: Rock Band) to eventually be made available in Rock Band 4. Check out the chart below for more.

So.. wait. Call me an idiot if this is a stupid question, but, if I never owned any of the original Rockbands (except Beatles, I had that one), is there a way to get the songs?

@prof_detective: RB1 didn't come with a code, instead it had a key you could purchase that would rip the songs off of the disc. The other titles had unique codes that had to be redeemed, except for RB3. All the codes are expired now. The RB3 export was released a few weeks ago and apparently all it does to see if you're eligible to buy it is check if you've purchased the digital copy of the game (which has also expired), or if you've previously played the game by checking your trophy/achievement info.

Rock Band Blitz is still available and every song from Green Day Rock Band can be purchased individually.

@prof_detective: If you never owned the games, no there is no way to export. Most original games (RB1, RB2, RB3, LEGO, etc.) came packaged with unique export codes. You enter the code in a later game, pay a modest export fee, and voila...the old songs run in newer game.

Rock Band Blitz is still available for Xbox 360 / PS3. I believe you can still buy that title and get all of the songs free in RB4. (The blitz songs are also available for purchase individually as DLC, but that will cost you more than the $15 Blitz game.)

The Rock Band 3 export is also still available. Purchase a copy of the game at retail--make sure you buy new because you need the code inside the box. Then for another $15 you can export to RB4.

I think those are the only exports still available. Export offers for RB1, RB2, Lego, Green Day, etc. have since expired. Harmonix is often asked about re-releasing older disc songs to buy separately as DLC but they've always said it isn't a high priority to make that happen. I think they'd rather invest resources in new DLC instead of re-releasing old stuff which has limited appeal.

@prof_detective: Probably not right now. They might make them as DLC but since they don't sell the import pass it seems like a no go.

Thank god they FINALLY explained what is going on with Green Day Rock Band. I have been complaining for the past 3 months on every Rock Band article. Nice to know they will eventually be coming. They were silent the last 3 months.

@senorbusyman: Way to show that anger... over something that happened 7 years ago. Those songs were removed with the first export of RB.
