You Can Finally Delete Your Steam Games Permanently

Hide that awful game no longer.

Adding a game to your Steam library has, in the past, been a permanent process. You didn't need to have it installed, but every one of your games would always be displayed while scrolling through your full library. Last year, Valve added the ability to "hide" games, but they remained lurking in the background, mocking you with their awfulness (perhaps housed inside a category named "Ugh," if you're anything like me). That no longer needs to be the case, as Valve has quietly introduced the ability to permanently delete a game from your account.

No Caption Provided

It's unclear when it was added, but NeoGAF member Enter the Dragon Punch recently found the option hiding in Steam's Help section. From there, just select the "Games, Software, etc." option, search for the game you want to remove, and then choose "I want to permanently remove this game from my account."

That page will then confirm that you do indeed want to delete the game, and warns that you should uninstall the game first if you currently have it installed. If you don't, you'll have to manually remove the files from outside of Steam.

Some will undoubtedly find the function useless, as this amounts to throwing a game in the trash that was located inside a limitless room. Others will be glad to finally have a way to never again be reminded about that mistake of a purchase.

Pointless feature.

This will make a lot of these retarded teenagers happy though, that like to hide games or pretend they never played something because it's shame-a-fur.

Or you could just be an adult and admit "Yea I paid 2 dollars for Duke Nukem Forever and it blows, big deal" because it's not hurting anyone by sitting uninstalled in your library. People who would want this are the same group of people who troll the forums, have private profiles, all of which who have been VAC banned a minimum of once, and are generally useless pieces of trash that belong on console where even the console community can't talk to them.

How about Valve stops catering to these cancerous shitbirds and adding features in for the positive Steam users who suggest things, like better sorting or categorization in the store and library? Seriously, what moron is going "Yea so I paid money for this game. I didn't like it, and I'd like to DELETE IT FOREVER. I can't get my money back, but I just want it gone forever - don't care if someone I know might want to play it or whatever, I just need it gone."

The only legitimate purpose I can identify for this feature is to get shit out of your library that doesn't exist anymore - Skullgirls endless beta, Counter-Strike Source Beta, L4D2 beta, etc. Things that should never have been there in the first place.

@ughz: i'm not a pc gamer, hell i'm not even a gamer, i'm just a guy who likes to play video games. steam wasn't the only reason that game was shit, but when you live in a rural area without internet, steam ain't your fucking friend. christ has a naval invasion happened yet in that game?

Used it to get Duke Nukem Forever and Aliens: Colonial Marines out of my Steam library. Those games were complete and total shit.

This makes no sense to me. It's not like the games are taking up space in your house and what if you have a change of heart and decide you want to play that deleted game someday...

@KillbombX: Exactly, this is like if I saw a rat in my house and said "Well, time to demolish the room." This isn't just a useless feature, this can actually be downright harmful if someone gets hacked or if someone else uses their account.

I always placed my over layer to only display games that I installed, I only view the full library for some occasional inspections, the only thing this new function brings is the risk of deleting games that I own, worse, what if I get hacked and the fucker decides to delete my games? I seriously do not like this idea, I hope its atleast optional.

@Dark_sageX: Agree with you. I think they should put some protection when you want to delete a game...maybe a confirmation code to delete the game.... and the confirmation code need to be send to your phone.

Dishonorable Mention: Bad Rats. Though I personally never was afflicted by that plague thankfully.

So long Sword of the Stars II! No longer will you mock me by reminding me of my foolish mistake in believing Kerberos would finish the game rather than getting the no questions asked refund Paradox offered immediately after launch.

@Rufus_the_rat: Nope. If you buy a bundle and you wanna get rid of a single game, you can't. You can get rid of the entire bundle but not a single game.

Yeah, this is stupid. I'm still stuck with a lot of crap I'll never gonna play, 4sho

If they have provided the option to delete a game from your account, they should provide the option to gift it to someone.

Sweet. Had a few games in there just begging to be tossed. "Sacred 3" "2XL Supercross" and a few others. Like a bad smell hanging around. To those who don't like the option - don't use it.

@Scarshi: Just to add, I got my Arkham Knight key from buying a new video card. So a free lemon basically that gets more sour each day. Deletion is possible. I won't, but I might. Maybe. Tempting.

I don't understand why you would need to do this. I collect physical games, mind you, and I can't fathom ever needing to "permanently remove" one from my steam collection let alone hide one.

I don't get the need for this. It's like adding a feature to just throw away money. If you want to do that just open a transfer to my bank account and throw your money away in there. No one will ever know.

So wait can you remove games that are physical as well?

I accidentally activated my brother's copy of Football Manager on my Steam account when setting up his new PC last week and the Steam person said that I couldn't remove it.
