A new Star Wars movie is in the works, and it'll helmed by Taika Waititi, whose previous credits include Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit. What better way to celebrate Star Wars Day than with news like this? While details or a release date have not yet been shared, this will be a theatrical release--not a Disney+ original film.

The news comes from StarWars.com, which reports Waititi will direct and co-write a new Star Wars adventure. Penning the screenplay for the new film with Waititi will be Krysty Wilson-Cairns, who most recently served as the writer on the war epic 1917, as well as the upcoming movie Last Night in Soho from director Edgar Wright.

Of course, this isn't Waititi's first time playing around in the Star Wars franchise. He previously voiced the droid IG-11 on the Disney+ original series The Mandalorian, while also directing the Season 1 finale. The prospect of Waititi working on a Star Wars movie has come up before, with Kathleen Kennedy saying she would "love" for him to direct one back in 2017. Now, it's actually happening.

Alongside this news, Lucasfilm confirmed that Russian Doll's Leslye Headland is developing a Star Wars TV series for Disney+. She'll serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. As with Waititi's theatrical entry, there's still no word as to what this particular Star Wars story will be about or if it will feature any familiar characters. These projects represent some of the many Star Wars movies and shows in the works.

Now Lucasfilm just needs to finally address whatever is going on with the Rian Johnson-helmed trilogy of movies fans are waiting on.
