XCOM 2's First Expansion Gets Release Date, New Details

Anarchy's Children is coming soon.

XCOM 2's first expansion is coming soon. 2K and Firaxis have announced the add-on, called Anarchy's Children, will come out on March 17 on PC (but it has nothing to do with St Patrick's Day).

No Caption Provided

Anarchy's Children introduces more than 100 new "exotic" soldier customization options, including more hairstyles, face paint, armor, decals, helmets, and masks, among other items.

Now Playing: GS News Update: XCOM 2's First Expansion Gets Release Date

You can see some of these outlandish customization options by clicking through the images in the gallery above.

Anarchy's Children included with XCOM 2's $20 Reinforcement Pack or it can be purchased by itself for $5. Two further add-ons, Alien Hunters and Shen's Last Gift, will be released this summer.

Firaxis also said it will release a new patch for XCOM 2, presumably alongside the DLC, that will introduce "performance optimizations" and gameplay fixes. More details will be announced "very soon."

XCOM 2 arrived for PC in February. Console versions have not been ruled out, but Firaxis has yet to announce anything about bringing the game to PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

In other news about XCOM 2, modders have been busy bringing Star Wars and Bob Ross to the game.

is definitely bs calling this an "expansion".

another good reason why other places are usually better to get your game information than gamespot is their "click-bait" article headings.

I guess it is just me but XCOM 2 seems a lot more challenging in the beginning of the game than the whole of XCOM did. I am playing it on veteran and it took hours to get used to. But I do love the game, choppy frame rate and all.

That's it?! I was hoping something like the DLC for EU. There's already tons of cool soldier appearance mods out already.

I have a feeling I'm going to finish this game just before the patch is released. Not that I've had any major problems. But I'd be interested in seeing if the load times are faster and if I can maintain slightly higher frame-rates

Loved the game, was a good 60 hour strategy game on Commander level. I love even more how soon the DLC Expansion is coming out. I really hope it's at least 10-15 hours on commander.

My biggest complaint about customization is the pitiful options for modifying the look of the Predator and Warden armors and the fact that the secondary armor and hair colors are 100 shades of grey and brown instead of being a good palette of colors. And give us back the Russian and Polish voices... and it's about damned time we got some Nordic and Asian voices too.

@Moondrake: I totally agree. I would have liked voices with accents as well. I would think an international group would primarily speak English so voices with appropriate accents would be cool. How it is now, you can have voices in some native languages, but no one on the team could understand everyone.

Eddie doesn't see the difference between DLC and expansion. Anarchy's Children is DLC, Brave New World is an expansion. Get your facts straight.

why are people surprised about it just being cosmetic dlc, the description has always been that it would be cosmetic.

So.. it's horse armor.

$5 for faces, hair styles and stuff that doesn't actually add anything to the game (really). I mean I love Xcom2 but this is pretty silly..

@justinc882: Eh, someone will want it, can't blame them for trying to make a bit of extra cash. I don't really see the appeal either though, with mods I already have a load of extra customization options... and the base game wasn't exactly lacking in that department to begin with.

I'm sure they'll release something more substantial later on... this is probably just Eddie being Eddie and calling it an expansion when it's just some DLC, just to get peoples hopes up and a few more clicks.

@straightcur: Yes. It makes your characters look really dumb, making it a real challenge to look at the screen.

XCOM 2 is great, but I think mods have my soldier customization option covered pretty well. If they make an Enemy Within style expansion, or something larger like that, I'm totally down.

Well, I'll wait for the "Enemy Within" like expansion, then I'll buy the game.

Wait... that's it? I have over 100 new customization items, hats, skins, guns, helmets, outfits, and voice packs from just a handful of mods alone.

This can't be all there is for the first DLC. No new enemy or map types? What about missions? I'm sure the customization items will be cool and high quality, but it's baffling that there isn't a bit more.

@dxBIGBOSSxb: This isn't exactly a surprise since the description of the pack is up in the store page for months now, we knew the first DLC was only customization. Next DLC add more customization and "gameplay themed around Xcom as an elite alien hunting unit" (whatever this means), with new weapons, armor and "a new dramatic mission & confrontation". Then the last DLC of the pack add a new soldier class with unique weapons, armor, customization and a new narrative driven mission and map.

Firaxis DLCs normally don't add a lot, what they do really well is expansions, then you can expect tons of content.

Which one do you mean? The Ainsley Harriot one or the Red Dwarf One?

I have no reason to doubt you. I'm just curious as to which you meant.

@punksterdaddy: The Red Dwarf one. We were speaking at length at which voice packs would be amusing in the game.
