Xbox's New Battletoads Reboot Game Might Be Nearing Release
A new entry in the Battletoads series was rated by Brazil's games board, which is its first sign of life since August 2019.
Games enthusiasts of a certain age still bear the scars from the infamous speeder bike levels of the original Battletoads, and you might be able to test your skills again soon. The Battletoads reboot that was first announced back at E3 2018 is finally showing signs of life, with Gematsu noting that the game recently appeared on Brazil's state-run rating board. Typically, games don't receive ratings from such agencies unless they're relatively close to launch.

Originally slated for a 2019 release, the Battletoads reboot is under development by Dlala Studios, under the supervision of Rare. It would be the first entry in the series since the Battletoads arcade game from 1994, which never made its way to consoles of the day. The new game was first teased when the three Battletoads--Rash, Zitz, and Pimple--were added to the indie sensation Shovel Knight in 2015.
Like previous games in the series, the new Battletoads belongs to the beat 'em up or brawler genre, and there have been several other attempts to bring back the glory of that arcade era in recent years. The retro-sequel to Sega's beloved Streets of Rage series garnered positive reviews from critics and fans alike, with our critic Heidi Kemps rating it an 8/10 in GameSpot's Streets of Rage 4 review.
