Xbox Series X--Here's An Update On The July Games Event

Marketing boss Aaron Greenberg lets fans know how planning for the event is coming along.

Microsoft's next Xbox Series X event is poised to be the biggest and most exciting one yet. During the company's July Xbox 20/20 event, Microsoft will showcase a series of first-party Xbox Series X games, including Halo Infinite. The company may also use the show to reveal the long-rumored all-digital next-generation Xbox. A Microsoft executive has teased what to expect, and it sounds like fans are in for a big show. We haven't seen much gameplay from Xbox Series X yet, so this could be our chance. Fans won't want to miss this one. [Update: Microsoft has now confirmed the date of the event; the Xbox Series X Games Showcase will take place on July 23 at 9 AM PT. That date lines up with one that was previously rumored.]

Xbox marketing director Aaron Greenberg--who heads up planning for these events--said on Twitter that Microsoft conducted an internal review of the event just this week with Phil Spencer. The team at Microsoft is "working hard on it," but Greenberg said the company isn't ready just yet to announce more details, like a date or a rundown of what will be shown off during the program.

"Team working hard on it," Greenberg said to a fan on Twitter who asked for an update. "Good content review today in fact with the big boss. We will share more details when all is locked. Kindly ask for patience in the meantime."

Microsoft's first Xbox 20/20 show in May focused on third-party games, like Assassin's Creed Valhalla. The show failed to live up to the hype, and Greenberg acknowledged that Microsoft set the wrong expectations for the event. Fans will be understandably looking for a stronger event in July, and with Halo Infinite leading the way, it seems like Microsoft is poised to deliver the goods.

Halo Infinite is the first mainline entry in the series since 2015's Xbox One game Halo 5: Guardians. Microsoft created an entirely new engine, the Slipspace Engine, for Halo Infinite, and the company is promising to deliver an exciting new experience with the game.

Microsoft now operates 15 game studios, and all of them are working on titles for Xbox Series X. In addition to Halo Infinite from 343 Industries, we know Ninja Theory is making Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 for Xbox Series X using Unreal Engine 5, while Sea of Thieves developer Rare is making a new game called Everwild. Additionally, Microsoft's new studio The Initiative has teased a new project coming from the writer of Red Dead Redemption. Some of the rumored games for Xbox Series X include Fable 4 and a new Forza title.

We'll report back with more details on the Xbox 20/20 event for July when they're announced.

I seriously don't care about brands, I just want innovative, creative games. Not another forza or halo. I enjoyed the 360, but saw nothing interesting on the xbone to be motivated to buy a console. This feels the same..... we'll see.

Xbox don’t have to do much to top the mediocre ps5 event. Show gameplay for a handful of big budget games and they’ll beat that event easily. Ps5 had 2games I’m remotely interested and one looks to be a 6to 8 hour expansion.

@gamerbum: Showing "gameplay" has actually proven to be a tall order for MS so far.

I'm looking forward to some games. I hope I see something good from MS studios that will set the Series X apart. It would be nice to see the system UI and find out if they have found a clean and snappy (and hopefully consistent) way to present things.

To be expected considering he's an exec. I will however say there's been a decent number of insiders going around saying this show is supposedly huge and filled with "mic drops".

I’m hoping they show a new Forza. I can’t imagine Forza 8 not being a launch game, especially since Turn 10 took a year off. Forza 5 at launch was what decided me on which cons to pick up first and I think a F8 would do the same.

Damn y’all. Just get both like I’m going to and you’ll be able to enjoy all the good games. I don’t see why you have to be one or the other. I have an Xbox One X and a PS4 Pro now and I’m constantly going back and forth between the two

I wonder if Microsoft would have one of their new internal studios handle a sequel of Killer Instinct or they would have the master minds at Iron Galaxy develop it again.

That's something else Sony is lacking, a fighting game of their own.

@johnny0779: Why does every one of your posts have to include a jab at Sony? Mods, come on, the guy is obviously trolling.

Somehow I got a feeling it will be as disappointing as their May event. Not much wrong with the games themselves they showed and I'm sure Halo will be good. Its just that playing Xone games, just better, isn't going to fire up consumers like true next gen games will.

@swampdonkeyz: what have you seen that is true next gen? If you are going by ps games then i regret to inform you but you will be waiting another couple years at least in my opinion. Digital foundry have already concluded games like R and C will be running 30fps etc.

@walbo: Sony's games running in 30fps and 1440p is the whole reason why their games did look next gen. Next gen games typically means new games not possible on current gen, not current gen games in 120fps. I mean didn't Xbox One X already do that and how well did that sell?

@swampdonkeyz: Hate to break it to you, but the majority of the games on both systems weren't running at 30fps and 1440p, now the pro and X might be different, where the X was hitting better than the Pro, like with Doom, game looked and ran better on the X vs the Pro... here is a good link for you..

All I wanna see is more on Halo: Infinite and it's pretty much the only MS game I hype to play on PC. Other then that, I'm very well looking forward to Series X event :)

Microsoft by just showing the official Series X console measurements in a fancy promo video would be more than what Sony has shown, as they "Conveniently" forgot to disclose those PS5 measurements on any type of advertisement.

I'm easy. Just show some actual gameplay and I'll be thrilled.
