Xbox Series X July Event Will Focus Only On Games

Don't expect new console announcements or pricing as Microsoft sets the expectations for its event this week.

Microsoft is set to host its next Xbox Games Showcase this week, on July 23, which the company has now detailed a little further in a new blog post.

The message for the stream is clear: games. Microsoft says viewers can expect their first look at Halo Infinite's campaign during the event, as well as updates on already announced titles and brand-new world premieres. Unlike the company's previous stream in May, this showcase is centered on first-party titles which will come to Xbox and PC.

Now Playing: Xbox Series X Is A Chance To Fix Achievements

Responding to rumors surrounding the event, Xbox's Aaron Greenberg clarified further on Twitter that the event will be just about games and nothing else, squashing hopes of a surprise console reveal for the heavily rumored Xbox Lockhart or talk of a price for the Xbox Series X.

The stream will be an hour long and streamed across YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, and Twitter. Like Sony's PS5 reveal stream, the event will cap out at 1080p/60fps during the live broadcast, but Microsoft has promised full 4K trailer uploads after it has concluded.

Microsoft's first big stream for the Xbox Series X took place in May with a host of third-party reveals and console exclusives. The stream was criticized for not featuring much gameplay, with Greenberg apologizing the day afterwards. Microsoft also recently announced that xCloud will be included in Game Pass Ultimate starting this September.

It doesn't really matter if Xbox games are released on PC. Sony should probably continue to release their exclusives on PC.

Xbox just needs more games that wont release on Sony's console. Right now there is almost no reason to buy an Xbox console if you are a console gamer

@eli150: "Sony should probably continue to release their exclusives on PC".

Which Sony exclusives have released on PC? I think HZD is supposed to at some point, but I'm unaware of others.

I am following both major consoles as details are provided, but genuinely hope (and would honestly suggest) that the over-the-top fake enthusiasm be dialed back significantly by whomever hosts. May was simply awful to watch.

I love how they achieved backwards compatibility on Xbox, it's pure 101 unknown risk Vs achievement.

What Ea did to sega, to bypass the licensing fee's of 15$ per a game, they reengineered the Sega mega drive, because they were able to achieve the similar architecture on pc, back in the last 80's, and since Sega mega drive had the same architecture, EA bought a development kit under Sega's nose not altering the system documenting the internals, building their own development kit, infuriating sega unable to do anything.

Now Microsoft has done the same thing (it's just the 360 hardware is like sega but with out the legal issues), achieving the ability to trick the 360 to never know it's running on different hardware that being x86, because the Xbox 36o used IBM power pc, where as Sony used the cell processor made by IBM and Sony.

But what Microsoft have achieved in backwards compatibility on papper to final product is a engineering marvel.

This is going to be a good showing for Xbox. I can feel it. Halo, Hellblade, Fable, Forza, The Initiatives new game perhaps a new Pefect Dark, Everwild, InXiles new game and Obsidians new RPG are the games I would like to see. But I only need Halo at the launch of XseX.

Actually I wouldn’t mind seeing a sneak peak at an XseX optimised Cyberpunk 2077 but I don’t think that’s a realistic expectation.

im positive its gonna be disappointing.
Halo will looks like halo, Fable will look like Fable, Forza will look like Forza then theres gonna be the typical 3rd party sports titles. and the indie trash

ill just wait till they upload it all on youtube in parts to see what i want and not waste and hour

An hour long show mainly (or only) about first party games? That still sets the expectations high (hopefully in a good way lol)

Being mad about your gamer score not being divisible by five...... WHO THE **** CARES, did you have fun getting the achievement because if the answer is YES then the point value of that achievement is irrelevant

@vamroc: I find it amusing the lengths some people will go to hit a particular GS.. from requests for games that have 2 point achievements, to people wetting their pants because their GS is an Odd number 😂

At this point, I'm close to 50/50 on whether to get the XSEX or PS5. Still going to wait for them both to come out for the reviews though. That said, I know that I'm in the minority, but I didn't like or wasn't interested in any of the PS exclusives this last gen. Story driven linear games just aren't my thing. I am an Elder Scrolls fan though. Spent 100's of hours in each of those last 3 games. And if Obsidian truly is making a AAA fantasy RPG with the same type of gameplay and playstyle as an Elder Scrolls game, then Microsoft better at least show a teaser with a glimpse of gameplay, because that would almost 100% seal the deal and make me a first time Xbox buyer over Playstation.

@tony_miami: I'm not sure how many teams Obsidian has but I think it might be too early to get actual gameplay from whatever Obsidian is working on, the main team just finished The Outer Worlds a year ago and the second team is working on Grounded. Obsidian is confirmed to be in the show though so hopefully there is a nice surprise (CGI teaser perhaps) and they aren't just there for Grounded.

@fitzy_2812: See, those 5 seconds of Avowed gameplay is all it took for me to decide Xbox over PS5. All I wanted was confirmation. Lol.

@fitzy_2812: Yeah, I know. I have faith in Obsidian seeing that New Vegas was my favorite Fallout game. I guess I'm really just looking for some confirmation that they are actually working on a fantasy action RPG, instead of just the rumors, and that it's going to be first/3rd person switch view, like the Elder Scrolls games. As much as Skyrim has sold, I just don't get why no other gaming company has tried copying their playstyle format. Picked up Dragon Age:Inquisition a couple of months ago. The combat is terrible. Worse than ESO, and at least in that, you can play with your friends. That said, I know any gameplay is totally wishful thinking. My estimation would be that this rumored game would have to still be 3-4 years away.

@tony_miami: probably because tes game ties the entire some hundred team of bethesda for 5 or plus years and they are still bugridden messes

with new vegas obsidian got the tools and help straight from bethesda allowing them to focus on fine tunes and their interpretation

that makes outer worlds even more amazing hopefully now they have the tools to continue. but it didnt succeed like skyrim, fifa and cod transactions made more money and sales so... i would think that ms sees the advantagr of having an exclusive like tes so they are wiling to support obsidian however can

@vamroc: you are mistaken, its no games exclusive to series x for 2 years. There is plenty ms games coming but they will olso run on a lower graphic setting for last gen consoles. Halo is a launch title dude.

I thought it was implied I was only referring to the series X as having no exclusives because sure X Box as a platform will have them. But that doesn't invalidate my point about two years being a long goddamn time to wait just to play something I can't play on my X-Box One X. Sony will have the new hotness (and that console is sexy AF) with new games that take advantage of the overwhelming power that console brings to the table not two years from now but FIVE MONTHS from now beit an exclusive or not

We usually have a price tag by now right? It's like their afraid to tell us how much they plan to bleed us all. But that cannot be, they never have a problem telling us how much they will bleed us.

Release isn't that far off...is this unusual or am I remembering it wrong and it was always like this?

@fud_sang: It's that Microsoft and Sony are playing a game of chicken to see who releases the price first, possibly to undercut the other, but at the very least to match the price.

They'll release the console this year.

But.

They won't reveal the price until 2022. A year before Sony does.

@dancingcactus: They'll never reveal the price. You have to buy the console without knowing and must sign an NDA to prevent you from telling anyone else once you've purchase the system!
