Xbox Scorpio Will Deliver "Very Best Console Version Of Games," Exec Says

"I'm very confident," Phil Spencer says.

If you're picking up a Project Scorpio console, you can expect to play the "very best console version" of games this year, according to Xbox boss Phil Spencer.

Asked on Twitter if games like Destiny 2 and Call of Duty: WWII (presumably) will look better on Scorpio, Spencer said, "I'm very confident, from what we are seeing and hearing, Scorpio will be the very best console version of games this year."

No Caption Provided

According to Microsoft, Scorpio--or whatever name Microsoft ends up giving it--is the "most powerful console ever made." It boasts 6 teraflops of performance, including 326 GB/s of memory bandwidth. Additionally, Microsoft says the console's engine is the "most powerful console gaming processor ever created." The console has a vapor chamber that uses "advanced liquid-cooling," while it also uses the Hovis Method to maximize performance and minimize power consumption.

All Xbox One games work on Scorpio, though the Scorpio editions can look and perform better, in some cases, if developers want to do that. It is a similar situation with PS4 and PS4 Pro.

Microsoft is expected to share more details on Scorpio at E3 or sooner. Presumably we will learn the console's official name and price, among other things, in the weeks and months to come before the system's launch this holiday.

In other Xbox news, Microsoft's E3 2017 planning is taking shape. Microsoft conducted an end-to-end runthrough of its briefing today, which apparently took all day.

Additionally, Microsoft Studios boss Shannon Loftis said the company may soon announce at least a partial list of the games it's bringing to and showing off at E3.

The Xbox E3 briefing this year takes place on a new day, Sunday, starting at 2 PM PT on June 11. GameSpot will bring you all the news from the event as it's announced.

yeahhh considering the ps4's success is making you make another console this early to begin with I'd hope it would deliver on at least that.....sadly power won't change the gap when it comes to games between the two.

@bmoreninja777: That doesn't make sense, Sony made another PS4 a year before Scorpio comes out. The biggest selling games are also 3rd party, so Scorpio will deliver the best version of the best selling games this generation. It won't close the sales gap, however.

@readysalted: but MS released another version of the Xbox before that lol, c ant count minor upgrades, when we all know the Scorpio is pretty much MS giving up this gen and moving on with the Scorpio, and yes multiplats are the higher sellers but for gamers who aren't casual you need actual exclusive content and alot of it. Gonna be funny the Scorpio won't even scratch ps4 sales and then Sony will announce the ps5 probably next year and will release in 2019 and then what will MS do?

@bmoreninja777: I don't get your logic at all. PS4 Pro was announced before Xbox One S and Scorpio, and the slim PS4 was also released. So are you saying Sony released 2 consoles in 2016 so they're worse? Don't forget the slim removed features whilst Xbox One S added them (and the slim was still more expensive).

So multiplats are higher sellers but that's bad because less people buy exclusives? And how are MS giving up on this gen when Sony aren't, bearing in mind they also have released revised and more powerful consoles? If Sony release a console in 2019, Microsoft will release one whenever they have one planned for. Have you not seen the many years of console wars before this one?

@readysalted: Both the slim and the pro were all quoted to be minor upgr axes by Sony from the jump, the pro mainly for the support of VR, again the pro is still a minor upgraded ps4 amd the price shows that, MS released the slim and now the Scorpio which is a completely dofferent next gen console lol not even the same. And i never said multiplats are bad but harping on only multiplats because MS clearly has shown an inability to supply there fans with actual quality exclusive content consistently doesn't make exclusives unimportant. Having the most powerful multiplats only will get you so far with casual gamers that's my point. And of Sony releases a console I'm 2019 that would be 6 years for the ps4 a healthy console gen, whilst the Scorpio would be in its second year just gaining some ground and Sony cpuld destroy all with the ps5 which will certainly be on everyone's wish list....does MS wait another 2 years and compete that hasn't been done any past gen so idk where you got that from and Phil Spencer himself said he doesn't want to get in the habit of that unless that was just more MS PR rhetoric bull but who knows.

@bmoreninja777: Here are the things we know about both PS4Pro and Scorpio
-Both play the previous iterations(launch and slim models) games
-Neither will have games exclusive to their respective platforms, outside of PS/MS ecosystem exclusives
-Both are more powerful versions of previous iterations
-Both(presuming Scorpio takes the XB1 name at launch) are in the same family of consoles of their respective companies
With what we currently know, Scorpio is simply an upgraded XB1. Simple as that.

@bryanweary: Don't know much about it and I've learned with moaning my 360 for 8 years to not trust MS out the gate. So we will see at this point they're having a crap year when it comes to actual games so they need to knock this out the park....key word on NEED!!

@bmoreninja777: "Don't know much about it" So you admit to spouting off at the mouth without being informed. Please refrain from doing this in the future. I don't care that you make yourself look dumb, but as a Sony fan, you are an embarrassment to those of us who can be respectful to those on other platforms.

@bryanweary: Again you idiots ignore my points and are harping on lack of info that just makes my argument to begin with, and I've probably spent more gaming hours in the Xbox platform than you lol. My points are there if you can actually offer a legit rebuttal too my main points I'd actually take the crap you've been posting serious, just seems to be slot damage control when my main point was always that because of the ps4's success is the reason MS are forced to kick out Scorpio comparing it to the pro when you don't know much either is just as bad. But like I said before we will wait and see cause again MS needs it.

@sodapoppimpski: not spinning anything you moron, my original statement is the ps4's success is the reason MS is releasing the Scorpio and that's a fact the guy hasn't given me one reason I was off base with that, and his point on multiplats games doesn't change the fact that having a healthy library of exclusive content is vital too your console selling. All that crap with who announced and released minor consoles is irrelevant since the Scorpio isn't minor upgrade like those.

@sodapoppimpski: lol it's funny that you guys are really trying to spin it like MS wasn't forced to do thus to combat the ps4's success, Sony releasing the pro had nothing to do with MS it was to push PSVR lol. Live in your ignorance all you want but if MS still offers it's trash lineup of games the so called doing it better mid upgrade console won't mean a damn because it won't even sniff ps4 sales.

@bmoreninja777: both sony and microsoft started working on their respective midgen upgrades about 6 months after the release of the ps4 and xbox one, at that point sony were leading by about 3 to 4 million sales globally, no one at that time could have predicted sony shipping 60 million consoles by the end of march this year, it had nothing to do with sony's success, it had everything to do with the fact that both the ps4 and xbox were woefully underpowered at release, the moment phil spencer took over, he got the teams working on changing that fact, the xbox one, even right now its still selling way ahead of what the 360 did for its first 3 and a half years, so its still a really successful console, the anomaly here is how many ps4's have sold, nobody expected that not even sony, so no the scorpio isn't a response to sony's success, its a response to the fact that both the xbox one and ps4 were underpowered at launch!!!

Unless you wanna play it on a plane or something…then no, Scorpio won’t have the best version. Or lets say…you don’t like the controller, etc. In fact the only reason I could see ever wanting to play a game on it is if it wasn’t available for anything else.

It would be great if Destiny 2 ran at 60fps on Scorpio since the PS4 Pro couldn't handle it but that's never gonna happen because Sony's dick is planted firmly up Activision's anus with their wonderful little anti-consumer deal.

@gameplayuk: Expect the reason it isn't running 60 fps on the Pro is the CPU and Scorpio's isn't any better off. Also even if it could somehow push over 30, why would they have a gap between One and Scorpio players in a multiplayer shooter? People would cry about needing to buy Scorpio just to have a level playing field.

@darkelf83: PC players all play together on varying frame rates/resolutions without any complaints, if you have crappy hardware then tough, why are console players so entitled that this even is a thing. I know Sony currently have a policy that means frame rates have to be equal across all systems but that policy needs to be dropped to reward the people who have purchased the more premium console.

@gameplayuk: We're entitled because that is one of the prime parts of being a console player/developer. It is a stable, unchanging platform. Plug and play. No dealing with upgrades or wondering if you can even play a game or not. That is one of the biggest draws of a console. No muss, no fuss, just play. PC is different, always has been and some really like that. The framerate policy is good for gamers in multiplayer games. Single games can be free to have differences. Sony knows they'll get flamed if they made people buy new consoles just be on level footing.

@darkelf83: But what's the difference between getting an "advantage" via better frame rate and getting an advantage via better resolution. If having a smoother frame rate is an advantage in competitive multiplayer then having a better resolution and being able to see clearer is also an advantage. There's no consistency. I don't understand the point in these premium consoles existing if they're gonna be held back by stupid equality policies which negates their purpose.

@gameplayuk: Because you could notice the difference between 30 and 60 fps far more than 1080p to 4K. Which is why competitive gamers choose fps over resolution.

@gameplayuk: Consider that Destiny 1 had identical visuals and performance on PS4 and Xbone when it launched. There was enough of a power gap that they could have made the PS4 version the clearly superior one, but nope, they went for parity instead.

@poognaka: TBH I wouldn't even call the "exclusive" DLC a compromise unless an entire raid is exclusive. But even then they're only timed exclusives and always consist of minor pieces of content. I'd definitely prefer 60fps over a few meaningless, exclusive treats.
