Existing headsets will be able to operate with the Xbox One, confirms Microsoft, but it's currently unclear if the adapter will be sold separately.

Wired Xbox 360 headsets will be compatible with the Xbox One via an adapter, Microsoft has confirmed.

"We are working to develop an adapter for current wired headsets to connect," said Microsoft's Xbox Support account on Twitter. "More details as we approach launch."

Earlier this week Microsoft confirmed that the Xbox One wouldn't ship with a headset in the box, with the company saying that the bundled Kinect hardware features its own microphone.

"Each Xbox One includes the new Kinect sensor," said Microsoft, "with a highly sensitive multi-array microphones designed to enable voice inputs and chat as a system-level capability, both in-game and with Skype and other experiences."

Microsoft's Xbox One comes with a proprietary headset jack, whereas Sony's PlayStation 4 will use a standard microphone jack. The Xbox 360 features a 2.5mm headphone jack, similar to many cell phones.

Microsoft has not said whether the Xbox 360 headset adapter will be included with the Xbox One console or whether it will be made available for sale separately.

That means it won't be included. If they can't get you to spend money on buying a new headset, you can damn well bet they will make you spend money to buy the adapter.

@rawkstar007 Who doesn't get you to spend money? Isn't Son¥ making you pay for the 2nd controller on a PS4? You think gaming companies are in a charity business?

I'm wondering, does the 360 support Bluetooth headsets? And will the X180 support?

I own a PS3, and considering I have a Nokia Bluetooth headset that still works (it's about 5 years old, I think more), I use it with my PS3 (and any other device, like PC and so on). I trust the PS4 will aswell.

So I wonder if those work with the XB consoles. (This is just in case Microsoft decides to release an exclusive that is actually interesting and good...)

@DiamondDM13 The PS4 yes, Xbox One does not, according to the IGN chart here.

@MinerAvatar @DiamondDM13 That sucks. I don't like wired headsets. They always end up failing somehow. Bluetooth one don't use wires so they don't get broken...

If you're looking forward to shoving THIS in your ear, I'll keep you in my prayers.

@FAIL_TR0LL The only things I shove in my ears are earplugs when appropriate, and my finger, when appropriate. That reminds me, I need to get some earbuds for my 3DS, LOL. Kidding, but it is kind of strange that it didn't come with them.

@FAIL_TR0LL @Nova_Prime_85 You guys should try bluetooth headsets. Work with PS3, probably PS4 aswell, with just about any cellphone and PC. And they might be cheap. (I got mine over 5 years ago and it cost me 90€ back then)

@Warful *ruffles hair*

silly man, that would mean they wouldn't get more money!

It's all part of the 'over delivering value' strategy, where you pay a premium, and get less!
