The new console update will introduce various bug fixes across the system, particularly with the Edge browser. Larry Hryb, Xbox's longstanding communications executive, revealed on Twitter that the latest firmware update will not introduce any new system features.

At the time of going to press, it is not clear how big the update will be. According to those who previewed the beta build earlier in December, it weighed around 360MB.

The latest key application added to Xbox One is the Sky Go player in the UK, which gives users the chance to watch Sky TV through their console in another room or home.

As part of its Game of the Year series, GameSpot has published a 2015 report card that reviews all the key changes made to Xbox One throughout the year. You can read it here.

@JustinGoSka: Hopefully they'll eventually go back to a better UI. The new one sucks. Hides things, and is much harder to navigate. I appreciate the Windows 10 idea, but the new interface is terrible for the Xbox experience.

@scottwilkins: I don't like the new UI or the old one. I think the Xbox 360 UI was great. I wish they would just make it a prettier version of the 360 UI.

@Jew1: Ok first off Netflix works fine for me, so could you please elaborate as to what the problem is, and also, you bought an Xbox One JUST for Netflix? A Roku or Chromecast wouldn't be smarter?

@jerjef: no i bought the xbox one in hopes of it actually having decent games like the halo master chief collection. but its really pathetic that the only decent games are ones ported over from 360 or original xbox. even gate was fun despite making zero improvement to the graphics for next gen. other than that i have found just about every game released since then riddled with glitches, terrible, or just flat-out not worth my time to even buy. add to that all the ps exclusives and time exclusives over xbox and it makes xbox and even less of a choice. add into that that most games lack to great amazing promised graphics that were foretold all those years ago at ea. i've stopped buying games simply because I'm sick of wasting my money and just play on my 360 now because at least those games actually work and have decent graphics for their time. So my xbox one is simply used for voice controls and netflix. my netflix is riddled with issues, first voice commands don't work for it anymore, second it constantly crashes overtime i boot it up, third i can't pause it any more without the time bar being stuck on the screen or it just randomly backs out my program. need i go on? good for you if your netflix works but my experience increasingly gets more and more disappointing

@Jew1: Try turning off the instant on mode, it makes the Xbox super buggy. It works way better in energy saver mode.

@Jew1: Well I sorry to hear about your issues with Netflix, definitely seems like a larger issue at hand there. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling it?

As for the games, I think the exclusive selection is great and that the graphics are also great, but to each their own. I guess you could trade it in for a PS4 if you're that unhappy.

@Jew1: then buy a different console. "the only decent games are the ones that are ported over from the 360" so the xbox one has 100 good games and that's it? You're entitled to your opinion but my xbox one is tip top shape and everything works fine. Maybe you should contact xbox support instead of bitching on a forum.

Overall I'm really digging the new interface. I still find it a tad overwhelming and oddly organized in the store... but overall thumbs up.

I got excessive audio dropouts during the first few stages of Rise of the Tomb Raider, wonder if that's been fixed.

The thing that pisses me off about Xbox, is it is horribly slow at updating even small updates. My PS4 only takes the time it needs to download the update and then it flies right through install, only taken a minute or so to install...even, for a larger update pushing 1.3GB+. The Xbox takes 5-10 minutes, just for a miniscule update between 160-300MB and closer to 30+ for a large update. This, of course has always been true, since the advent of Windows updates. Windows 95, Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10...all have horribly slow update services. There, the problem is worse, in fact. Taking your average Windows 7 PC 15-45 minutes to even just so much as find and round up updates, depending on how much there is out there to download. Linux, and Mac, however, have always been exceptionally fast at finding and applying updates. As keen as Microsoft is at software, why the f_ can't they get a reasonable updating system in place? When I sit down to game in the morning, before work, the Xbox having to update is often times the things that determines whether or not I'll have time to actually play a few rounds of something. It is sooooo slow. And no, it's not my connection. I've always had 15-25Mb+ connections within the past near decade and not to mention, have had 3 different residences, in the time the X1 has been out. It's always been horrendous at updating.

@kopesettik: Try using the auto update. It seems most of the updates happen either overnight or when I'm not using it, so I hardly ever have to wait for an update.

@TexasStuBaby: I've got auto update turned on, but games still require I wait for the update to install. What's up with that?

@scottwilkins: I'm not saying I don't get the occasional "this games needs an update" message. But the system updates seem to be rather invisible to me. Other than that, I really don't know what to tell you.

@kopesettik:

It is mainly because the Microsoft OS is about 50 times more complicated than the Modified Linux OS PS4 uses.

@stoney29z: You really don't understand OSes do you? And, no, your reasoning is wrong. Owning both consoles, they usually update games at about the same speed.

@kopesettik: I agree the updates do take a while. Mind you I don't game in the mornings so it hasn't really impacted me much, but I can see this as an issue for some. I haven't seen PS4 do updates so I'll take your word for it. Because the X1 is running Windows 10, this is a byproduct of Windows as a whole like you said so I guess to fix this they would have to do a complete rewrite as it seems like an issue at it's core.

@jerjef: Yeah, I'm sometimes gaming under constraints e.g. before me and the wife head out somewhere, before work, or while she's doing her workouts. Naturally, something as simple as an update can dictate whether I game, or not. This isn't to say I don't have time to sit down for 3 hours and game a good part of a Saturday etc. but during the week, an update makes or breaks my gaming all together. I could leave it in low power mode(and I have), but in an effort to save on energy we tend to shut all appliances/ devices off, shut off surge protectors and keep things like coffeemakers and toasters unplugged(helps tremendously on the energy bills). This is doubly so in the summer, when we are running A/C extensively.

They continue to make X1 better and better, thank you based MS.

I'm sooo happy you're not the console leader and just rest on your heels and milking the fans. :P

@SecretPolice: I have to agree that it sometimes pays to support to trailing platform. They do everything they can to sell consoles and support their consumers. Sony did this last gen when they were trailing MS.

@jerjef: This is true - having said that, if MS were currently leading the race we'd probably say it's good they need to keep coming up with new stuff, in order to maintain that lead!

If essence, I really don't think it matters much - competition is a great thing. Last gen the 360 romped away then the PS3 worked hard to come back - maybe this time it'll be the other way round.

Either way - bring on the competition!! Keep it up MS - you're doing a great job! Respect etc.
