[UPDATE] Microsoft has provided a statement on the matter.

“Microsoft often acquires various trademarks as part of its ongoing business strategy, but beyond that we have no comment.”

The original story is below.

It's not just Sony that's snapping up trademarks for new games ahead of the Electronic Entertainment Expo this summer. On April 16, Microsoft filed a trademark application with the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) for a new title called "Eden Falls," listing the game only as an "online computer game."

Unfortunately, that's all we know, at least officially, about the project so far.

Finnish developer Brimstone Interactive says it is working on a sci-fi role-playing game called Eden Falls. Meanwhile, the website is registered privately to an individual in California. Adding even more complexity to the situation, a new Twitter page for Eden Falls mentions Microsoft's Lift London studio, a new outfit that develops smartphone and tablet games.

We have reached out to Brimstone Interactive and Microsoft and will have more on Eden Falls as it becomes available.
