Xbox One's Sling TV App Arrives Today, Comes With Live TV for $20/Month

Have an Xbox One and looking to ditch your cable provider? Here's something you may want to consider. Microsoft and Dish Network on Tuesday released the Sling TV app for Xbox One, making Microsoft's console the first gaming system to support an over-the-top TV service.

Sling TV, which requires no contract or extra hardware installation, features channels such as ESPN and ESPN 2, as well as TNT, TBS, Food Network, HGTV, Cartoon Network, and Disney Channel. It's available for $20/month, while you can an extra $5 for "Sports Extra," "Kids Extra," “News & Info Extra," and “Hollywood Extra."

Xbox Live Gold ($60/year) is not required for Sling TV on Xbox One.

The PC version of Sling TV launched in February. No announcements have been made regarding a release for PlayStation 4 or Wii U.

The Sling TV app for Xbox One features Snap functionality for multitasking and Kinect integration for gesture and voice controls. Check out the video above for a closer look at how the Sling TV app works on Xbox One.

Xbox One owners can try the service free for 30 days. For those who haven't purchased an Xbox One, Microsoft is now bundling a three-month Sling TV subscription with the purchase of a new Xbox One at a Microsoft Store or through the company's website.

Competitor Sony is also working on an Internet TV service called PlayStation Vue for the PS4. Pricing and availability details for that service have not been announced. One major difference, at least right now, is that PlayStation Vue does not feature any Disney content, which includes ABC and ESPN.
