Xbox One Power Supply Units Now Available to Buy

You can get a new one for as little as $35 if it's not covered under your warranty.

Comments

Up until recently, there was no way to buy an additional Xbox One power supply, which was kind of a bummer if you needed one. But now, Microsoft has added that very option to the Xbox Support site.

Simply head to the Xbox Support site, select "Replace an Accessory," and then choose Power Supply. From there, you can either choose to return a non-functioning power supply to Microsoft and get a new one for $35, or you can buy a new one outright for $50.

A replacement power supply is not covered under the standard Xbox One warranty. Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb confirmed the news on Reddit (via Microsoft-News).

In other Xbox One news, the console is "gaining momentum" in the United States. In August, the console was outsold again by the PlayStation 4, but sales grew 26 percent compared to last year.

Bit off topic, can you buy Xbox 360 PSU in official capacity?

ps4 owners are laughing. hahahahaha!

ok, all joking aside. that really sucks man.

@sampson3121: I'm not laughing, I'm pissed I can't move my X1 into another room as easily as my PS4 because it means undoing my entertainment center to get the power cable out.

I'm an Xbox fan at heart, but there are just some things Sony did right. Standard Power Cables are one of them.

Why am I not able to just buy one at Gamestop? I like to have a second set of cables for moving my Xbox from my theater room to the bedroom.

That way I don't have to dewire it from the entertainment center.

And don't tell me to stream it. Streaming blows. Delayed responses and shitty video. My Internet is fast too so I don't want to hear it.

@skyhighgam3r: cause there's too little a demand for it that it doesn't worth stocking for gamestop. the hard drive can fail in a console as well. gamestop don't stock them either

Avatar image for skyhighgam3r
SkyHighGam3r

@Alurit: Gamestop stocks hard drives. I almost bought the Xbox One external drive when I was there yesterday, not to mention I got my 20gb, my 320gb, AND my 500gb for my X360 there...

I can see what you are saying about too little demand though.

It's such a shame though, It's so nice being able to use generic power cables for the PS4/3. I can move it between rooms with such ease.

Avatar image for Alurit

@skyhighgam3r: I wasn't talking about external ones or proprietary 360 ones,I said if the 3.5" standard desktop hdd that is inside the xbone fails you won't find replacement for it there. guess I should have specify it more. I was talking about standard 3.5" hard drives that are inside the xbone, or 2.5" that is inside the ps4. you have to go to wallmart, amazon or some computer store for those. you can actually upgrade the one that is inside the xbone if you take it out clone it to a higher capacity one using a pc and put it back, but that would violate the warranty there is still one on it.

Avatar image for skyhighgam3r
SkyHighGam3r

@Alurit: Yeah that really sucked. Did they not expect people who bought launch consoles to need to upgrade from 500GB? That's ridiculous for these Blue ray Games. GTA Takes up like 70GB with all the DLC. that's almost 1/5th of the drive.

I go to Best Buy cause there's one near me and I have a credit card. Makes it eassier to buy a 100$ HDDD if you can split it between 2-3 checks, but I'd much rather just buy one that's 'XBOX' from Gamestop and get my points and coupons ( I got a 50$ off coupon, AND a buy 2 get 1 free coupon yesterday) So they cost me even less and they have the 'XBOX' branding, and I can trade them in when the next largest size comes out and save even more.

At least it is now possible to buy a replacement power supply. Have these been dying lately? The original Xbox did have faulty power cables for which Microsoft did offer a free replacement.

Nice to have the option to replace Xbox one parts.

What? Nowhere in that link did Major Nelson say that power supplies aren't covered by a warranty.

You've always been able to get a warranty replacement. What was added was the ability to buy a spare/extra power supply.

@Chickun: Yup. Gamespot staff are totally clueless when it comes to anything Xbox One. The power supply is indeed covered under the standard warranty. I know of several clients who got a replacement via warranty.

As i recently found out becoming an xbo owner again. Nothing is covered under a warranty from ms or can be extended for an extra fee. Go ahead and try. Theyve set it up where youll be buying a new xbo outright if something goes wrong.

@bandcelks00024: I have had my console and Kinect replaced free of charge. The console had a software issue I couldn't reset myself.

Avatar image for bdrtfm

@bandcelks00024: You're kidding right? I bought two Xbox Ones as gifts. Guess what the first the I did was? Bought extended warranties for both of them as I don't want the hassle of repairing them myself. One of their controllers broke sixth months in - it was drifting to the left - and they were given a free replacement. So I've no idea where you are getting your info from? Even the standard warranty covers the system as well as accessories.

Here is the link for the Extend Warranty you can buy for $70. http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msca/en_CA/pdp/Microsoft-Complete-for-Xbox-One/productID.292029600

Here is the standard Warranty that clearly says it covers accessories: http://support.xbox.com/en-CA/xbox-one/warranties-and-repair/console-kinect-warranty#72509daefffd471199d5e9a892ee35d2

@gottago42: xbox one is reliable because your console you bought not even 2 years ago, still works ? LMAO. . It better still work fine. I still have my original NES and atari that still works to this day. Now that is reliable. Only consoles that ever died on me was an Xbox and xbox 360. Hopefully Microsoft has their shit together with the xbox one or that's the last Microsoft console I will ever buy.

i take it america is 2 years behind europe then?? i bought one this way nearly two years ago. i had bought an xbox one on ebay without any accessories. i think it was some kind of replacement unit, it was still sealed and boxed but just in plain packaging. ebayers wanted £75+ but i registered on the xbox website and got one direct from microsoft. cost me £25. it actually shipped from germany. only took 3 days to get to the uk though.

Avatar image for joshrmeyer

What a rip off. How is it not covered with the warranty? And how is this an accessory? Isn't by definition an accessory something additional that isn't needed to function?

Handy! (...and, took 'em long enough.)

It's handy for making a convenient portable gaming station when you don't want to buy an add'l console. Just need the brick, a nice PC monitor w/speakers, and a Y-cable for the power to the wall; mount these to a sturdy service tray. The Xbone laying flat is a problem compared to the vertical 360 & PS though... May need to stack & space 2 service trays...

Probably my biggest complaint about my XB1 is that it requires the power brick. Only other complaint is the size of the XB1 itself. Really would like to see a XB1 Slim. I travel about half the year and if it were smaller would indeed make it easier for me.

Avatar image for heavengirl15

@spartanx169x: I agree with the convinience of having a more portable device. However, while I dont like the big box and external Power Supply I feel comfortable knowing that the over heating factor is reduced.
