The Xbox One version of Plague Inc.: Evolved launches on September 18, developer Ndemic Creations has announced.

The popular mobile game released on iOS and Android in 2012 as Plague Inc. before debuting as Plague Inc. Evolved on Steam last year. It's been in early access on PC since that time, with more features--including cooperative and competitive multiplayer--still on the way. The single-player aspects of the PC and Xbox One versions are essentially the same, save for the UI being reworked to function on a TV.

Compared with the mobile version, Ndemic describes Evolved on Xbox One as "very different ... we have been able to add a lot of things which would not work on mobile." This includes taking an already morbid game--you design a plague designed to wipe out every human on Earth--and making it even more so. It does this with "full 3D disease models taking you closer to your plague than ever before, city-cams showing humanity's struggle at street level, and the body scanner highlighting the full effect of your mutations, organ by organ."

There are also new stats and graphs, replays at the end of a game, and, of course, controller support.

Like the PC version, Evolved will cost $15 on Xbox One. That's a fair bit more than the mobile versions costs even with its expansions, but Ndemic notes this includes all of the paid DLC released over the last two years, plus "loads of new content updates that we have planned for the future." Future content includes new disease types, scenarios, game modes, and support for custom scenarios. Ndemic is also hoping to add the Simian flu from Planet of the Apes (available in the mobile version), though it first has to deal with some rights issues.

Plague Inc. has proven to be wildly popular on mobile in particular. Across all platforms, it's now seen over 55 million players, according to Ndemic. Last year, it actually saw a spike in sales during the Ebola scare.
