Xbox One Adds Three New Backwards Compatible Games

Three more Xbox 360 games are now playable on Microsoft's current-gen console.

Microsoft's steady drip feed of backwards compatible games continues, as three more Xbox 360 titles are now playable on Xbox One. Bucking the trend of recent weeks, the latest additions to the BC library are all taken from a different series and encompass a range of genres.

First is Prince of Persia, the 2008 reboot of Ubisoft's acrobatic platforming series. It is joined by the Xbox 360 version of Sine Mora, the acclaimed side-scrolling shoot-'em-up by Suda 51's studio, Grasshopper Manufacture. Rounding out the batch is the third-person shooter Earth Defense Force 2025.

If you still own a physical copy of any title, you can begin playing it on your Xbox One simply by popping the disc into the console. Conversely, if you've previously purchased any of the games digitally, they will appear automatically in the Ready to Download area of the My Games and Apps menu. If you don't already own the titles, they are also available to download from the Microsoft Store.

Microsoft has been regularly rolling out new backwards compatible games in recent weeks. Two Splinter Cell titles, Blacklist and Double Agent, were added to the BC library last week, while Silent Hill HD Collection, Assassin's Creed Liberation HD, and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter all joined the library earlier in July.

More than 400 Xbox 360 games--as well as more than 30 original Xbox titles--have been made backwards compatible with Xbox One since the feature was introduced in 2015. You can see all of them in our full list of backwards compatible games. Let's see. Max Payne 3 (and eh, maybe the first two as well now), the Crysis, and F.E.A.R. games, Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (perhaps both original Xbox and 360's Dark Athena), Syndicate, The Darkness (two's on there already), G.R.A.W. 2, Far Cry Instincts Predator, TimeSplitters 2 & 3, Goldeneye 007 Reloaded, Prince of Persia Warrior Within, The Two Thrones, and The Forgotten Sands considering the first game is on there, the Brothers and Arms games, Freedom Fighters... Hmm. If I could look at my Xbox collection in the closet I'd perhaps have more, but I'm too lazy to take them down.

IMO this 2008 Prince of Persia is the best of the series. Too bad they gave up and return to the Sands of Time with that forguetable Forgotten Sands...

PS4 guy here but I keep rooting for Microsoft. It's good to see them make strides to give the players what they want. Wish somebody else would wise up.

@decadentdescent: PS4 sucks! No, I'm kidding. I never troll, so I felt like being an ass for a second. Yeah, although I'm sure most people really want new great games to play (as in, we don't want consoles to thrive off of back compat alone), the way they're allowing players to play previous-gen games is excellent. I do kind of like and have bought the PS2 games on the PS4, but by comparison, Microsoft is doing a better job since you don't have to buy them again if you already own them, and last-gen games aren't relegated to a streaming rental service.
