Xbox Music app hits iOS, Android
Microsoft brings music service to new devices and adds free ad-supported streaming through the Web.
An Xbox Music app is now available on iOS and Android, Microsoft announced today. In addition, the company has launched a free and ad-supported streaming option through Xbox Music on the Web.
Users with an Xbox Music Pass ($10/month or $100/year) can access the catalog's 30 million songs through their iOS or Android mobile devices and create an unlimited number of playlists through the new Web portal at music.xbox.com.
Unlimited free streaming is available through the Web for a period of six months.
Microsoft also laid out plans for the future, saying it will add Radio to the free Web player in the coming months and will introduce a Web Playlist tool for Xbox Music on Windows 8 on October 17 with the arrival of Windows 8.1.
On top of that, Microsoft said it will release additional updates for iOS and Android platforms, including a new offline mode that will allow users to save their music to their device, nullifying the need for Internet or a data connection.
