Xbox Game Pass Cloud Gaming Launching With 170+ Games
Microsoft has detailed the list of games you'll be able to stream on Android devices with a Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
Xbox's xCloud streaming service is introducing a huge influx of games in time for its official launch on September 15. The streaming service is coming as part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, letting you stream games onto your mobile device with the same all-you-can-eat subscription. And as you might suspect, at launch the streaming options share a lot of similarities with the current Game Pass subscription library.
That means it includes first-party games like Forza Horizon 4, Grounded, and Tell Me Why, along with partner games like Spiritfarer and Untitled Goose Game. Some of the listed titles, like Halo: Master Chief Collection, actually include more than one game in the package.
The announcement also notes that your Xbox profile will come along with you, so if you started a game of Wasteland 3 with Game Pass on Xbox One, you can take that save to your Android phone or tablet. You can also group up with your friends easily since your friends list is all maintained across devices, and Microsoft suggests it could eventually be used to play multiplayer without additional devices or TVs.
It's notable that for the time being at least, the streaming functionality is only available on Android devices. Your Game Pass subscription gets you access to many of the same games on PC and Xbox One, those are only available as downloads. Microsoft has not announced plans to bring the functionality to those platforms. But if you have an Android devices, you could potentially play a large portion of the Xbox library without even owning an Xbox.
Microsoft has also been unable to put its cloud streaming service on Apple devices, seemingly due to App Store policies. That policy recently underwent a rule change that aimed at allowing companies like Microsoft and Google to enable game streaming, but Microsoft said it's still a "bad experience."
Game Pass Ultimate costs $15 per month and includes Xbox Game Pass on PC and console, as well as Xbox Live Gold. It's also included as part of the subscription price for Xbox All Access plans. Microsoft is launching the Xbox Series X and Series S on November 10, but its strategy seems to be deemphasizing the boxes themselves.
