Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Congratulates Sony on PlayStation Gamescom Showing
"Really nice collection of games," Xbox boss says.
Microsoft and Sony might be rivals in the console space, but the companies clearly have respect for one another. The latest example came today when Microsoft's Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, congratulated Sony for its Gamescom briefing, and Sony reciprocated.
"Nice briefing," he said in a tweet that mentioned PlayStation executives Shuhei Yoshida (president of worldwide studios) and Adam Boyes (vice president of publisher and developer relations). "Really nice collection of games."
Sony showed off a bevy of games during its Gamescom briefing, including AAA titles like Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Destiny, as well as smaller, PS4-exclusive titles like the next game from Rayman creator Michel Ancel and Tearaway Unfolded.
Yoshida sent praise back Microsoft's way, replying to Spencer: "Thanks Phil, congratulations on your great show :)." Meanwhile, Boyes tweeted, "You guys as well! A great day for gamers, and developers will sleep better tonight!"
Spencer has been active on Twitter today, and even retweeted a message from video game publication CVG that might surprise you. He retweeted the following tweet: "Phil Spencer is here. What a man. Leader. Gaming pioneer. Destroyer of mandatory Kinect. #hero" (Emphasis added.)
This is noteworthy because Microsoft has time and again assured Xbox fans that the company's decision to remove Kinect from every Xbox One bundle is not indicative of a lack of support or enthusiasm for the camera technology. Of course, CVG's tweet was obviously humorous, and Spencer may have only retweeted it for a laugh.
