Xbox boss Phil Spencer has spoken up to say he "love[s]" the idea of a Killer Instinct/Mortal Kombat crossover project, though nothing may be in the works.

Spencer's comments came in response to a tweet from NetherRealm boss Ed Boon, who said he's a fan of Killer Instinct, but a crossover would need to be exclusive to Xbox.

The Mortal Kombat series is not tied to any one platform, but Killer Instinct is an exclusive game for Xbox One and Windows 10 PC.

It also remains to be seen what kind of crossover Boon and Spencer were referring to, whether that be a full game or characters from one franchise appearing in the other.

What's more, as of yet, this is only Twitter talk; nothing is confirmed. No new Mortal Kombat or Killer Instinct games have been announced.

In recent news about Killer Instinct, the DLC character General RAAM from the Gears of War series arrived in the fighting game last week. On the subject of Mortal Kombat X, Boon recently revealed that the studio will add $50,000 to the Evo Mortal Kombat XL pot bonus at upcoming fighting game tournament Evo.

NetherRealm's next game is Injustice 2, which comes out in 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
