WWE Thunderdome To Relocate In December

WWE's interactive audience set-up will move to Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay.

WWE will bring its interactive audience experience, ThunderDome, to Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay as it begins a new residency starting with SmackDown on Friday, December 11. Tropicana Field is the home to the MLB's Rays. That's right, WWE's Thunderdome setup will soon exist in the middle of a baseball field.

Thunderdome was launched in August as part of WWE’s first-ever residency at Amway Center in Orlando and featured a state-of-the-art set that had lit up video screens, drone cameras, 3-D technology, and of course, good ole fashioned pyro. It's similar to what the NBA had been experimenting with during their season. Ray's President Matt Silverman expressed his enthusiasm for the shared occupancy.

"The Tampa Bay Rays are excited to welcome WWE to Tropicana Field for this residency and shine a spotlight on the Tampa Bay area for WWE fans around the world," said Silverman. "The ballpark will be transformed to host the spectacle of WWE ThunderDome, allowing fans to enjoy this wildly popular experience virtually."

WWE's move from Amway Center might have come about due to the NBA season beginning in late December and the possibility of the Orlando Magic needing the facility.

WWE Chief Marketing and Communications Officer Brian Flynn said that the "new residency will enable us to continue offering an unmatched live spectacle and would not have been possible without the strong support from the Tampa Bay Rays organization. We remain grateful for the hospitality provided by the Amway Center over the past four months."

Fans can still register for the Thunderdome experience through WWE's Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages.
