Chapter 2: General Strategies
This section offers general strategies for WWE Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain. These general strategies apply to all match types, exhibition, and season modes.

  • Mix it up! The computer controlled opponent (and certainly a human controlled opponent) will catch on quickly if you're only doing grapples or only doing strikes. Smackdown's combo system makes it very easy to mix up your maneuvers. For instance, perform two strikes against your opponent then go in for the grapple. Or just perform one strike then move in for the grapple. You could even move in for the grapple and instead of performing one of the moves, revert back to strikes. Many of the top computer controlled wrestlers excel at counters (especially those with a high technique rating, such as Chris Benoit) so it's important to mix up your style so you can avoid being countered constantly.

Use location-based damage to your advantage and work on a specific body part to force your opponent to submit.
Use location-based damage to your advantage and work on a specific body part to force your opponent to submit.

  • WWE Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain features location-based damage. That means you can inflict damage to specific areas of your opponent's body: the head, torso, arms, and legs. Damaging your opponent is always important but inflicting location-based damage will help you gain the upper hand for submission maneuvers. For instance, if you control a wrestler with a special submission "Smackdown" maneuver, like Chris Jericho's Walls of Jericho, you can work on damaging a specific area (in this case, the torso), then after it's sufficiently damaged, slap on the special maneuver to force your opponent to tap out. You can detect damaged areas by its color: blue means none or little damage, yellow is light damage, orange is moderate damage, and red means heavy damage.
  • Along the lines of "mix it up," don't begin a match going straight for grapples. Strikes are as effective as grapples; though strikes don't inflict the same kind of damage, the variation of moves keeps your opponent off guard. Further, the strikes help increase your Smackdown meter as you start down the path of cracking a finishing move on your opponent.
  • If you're looking to make your opponent bleed, certain maneuvers will be required. Check the move lists (in "Create" mode) to see which moves have a "B" next to them, like Undertaker's Irish whip to big boot combination. Weaken your opponent's head region (check the location damage next to the wrestler's name in the corner of the screen) and perform one of the specific maneuvers and you may cut open your opponent.
  • Don't get careless during a match and allow your opponent to steal a victory away from you. You could have your opponent all red with heavy damage to all parts of the body but your opponent can still pull off finishing maneuvers. Even if you're just moderately damaged, you could get pinned after a finishing move and all that damage you inflicted to your opponent will be lost. Finish off your opponent and don't let them hang around longer than necessary.

Pin your opponent immediately upon completing a finishing move.
Pin your opponent immediately upon completing a finishing move.

  • Go for a pin right after a finishing move. Don't waste time with other moves or your opponent can get a second wind and kick out. After a finishing move, move your opponent to the center of the ring (hold down "circle" and then use the directional stick to move your opponent around the ring) and go for the pin. Don't go for the pin near the edge of the ring if "ropebreak" is active in the match or you won't be able to get the pin. By the time you get your opponent down again, he'll likely kick out.

General Strategies - cont.

  • It's not necessary to go for a Smackdown finishing move as soon as you have a Smackdown icon. This could happen early in the match and your opponent could barely have sustained damage. Instead, consider saving up a couple Smackdown icons so you can perform multiple finishers in a short amount of time. This can be a devastating series of events to any opponent. Go for the pin quickly!

The entire taunt animation must complete before your Smackdown meter increases.
The entire taunt animation must complete before your Smackdown meter increases.

  • Taunting can be used to increase your Smackdown meter and gain Smackdown icons. However, realize that your entire taunt animation must complete before you receive any benefit to your Smackdown meter. And you must be careful because an opponent or even you can interrupt your taunt animation. If you're struck during the taunt, the animation interrupts. If you jiggle the right analog stick during the taunt animation, the taunt will be interrupted. The entire animation must complete. Also, note that longer taunts (those that take more time to complete) generate more on your Smackdown meter. Finally, realize that the taunt's benefit to your Smackdown meter won't accumulate past a Smackdown icon. So if you have just a little bit to go on your meter, perform a short taunt to get the icon. When you're that close to a new icon, a long taunt will generate the same amount for your Smackdown meter.
  • It goes without saying that your strategy should be dictated by your wrestler of choice's statistics. If you're a power wrestler with high strength and endurance, don't hesitate to mix it up close and brawl. A wrestler like Brock Lesnar or Undertaker should stick in close and dish out power maneuver after power maneuver. But if you're a smaller, speedier wrestler then you won't be able to hang up close with the power guys and will need to use hit and run techniques and more Irish whip and aerial maneuvers to hang tough. Note your wrestler's statistics and let them form your strategy. If you have a high submission rating, use those submission grapples to weaken specific body parts.
  • Once you've knocked down your opponent, make him earn the right to get back on his feet! Use ground strikes to pummel your opponent on the ground. He'll get up eventually but he'll have to suffer through additional strikes before getting a chance to stand. You can also use ground grapples to perform grapples on the prone opponent or even pull your opponent up for additional standing maneuvers. Keep the pressure on. Be creative and mix it up. Go off the top turnbuckle; pull your opponent up then knock him right back to the ground; and stomp on his head until he finally rolls over and rises more damaged than before.

Knock the ref down and you can get away with some dirty tactics like using a weapon!
Knock the ref down and you can get away with some dirty tactics like using a weapon!

  • Wish you could pummel the referee without consequence? In a match with disqualifications on, you'll need to put the referee temporarily out of commission if you want to get away with any nefarious deeds. But taking out the ref requires a careful touch. Do not focus your wrestler on the ref and attack (you change focus with the R1 button). Instead, make sure you're focused on an opponent before "allowing" the ref to get in the way of your strikes or grapples. For instance, if you're focused on your opponent, you can run and clothesline the ref without consequence. You can also strike and grapple as long as you aren't focused on the ref. With the ref down and knocked out temporarily, you can grab weapons and use them against your opponent! Just keep tabs on that ref and when he gets back up, don't use that weapon any longer!
  • You can "steal" your opponent's Smackdown finisher as long as you have at least two Smackdown icons saved. You also must be in the correct position to pull off the finisher (for instance, if you want to steal Ric Flair's Figure-4 Leg Lock then you must stand over a prone opponent's legs). If you meet all criteria, press L1 and L2 at the same time. It will deplete both of your Smackdown icons but you will have used your opponent's finishing move against them! It's immensely satisfying to F-5 Brock Lesnar! Now go for that pin!
  • Weapons are a fantastic way to wear down an opponent very quickly (and increase your Smackdown meter equally as fast). But you must be careful because a ref will disqualify you if he sees you with a weapon (if DQs are on in the mission). You can get weapons from underneath the ring (items like sledgehammers, chairs, and tables). You can also Irish whip an opponent into the ring steps; the steps break apart and a piece can be picked up and used as a weapon.

Chapter 3: Match Strategies
This section provides general strategies for specific match types, including the Royal Rumble, Tag Team, Lumber Jack, and the new Bra and Panties match type.

Tag Team
During tag team matches, use the right analog stick to call your tag team partner into the ring to assist. The ref will eventually kick your partner out--unless, of course, the ref has been conveniently knocked out of commission. But while your partner remains in the ring, lure your opponent near and allow your partner to help weaken the opposing team's legal man or the two of you can even perform double team maneuvers.

Call your partner in for assistance if you're in trouble during a tag team match.
Call your partner in for assistance if you're in trouble during a tag team match.

If you're in the process of being pinned and at risk of getting a three-count, call your partner in the ring to kick your opponent and bust the pin. The key to success in tag matches is using your partner effectively. Don't hesitate to call him in frequently; at worst the ref will escort your partner out of the ring. Note that while the ref is occupied with escorting your partner (or the opposing tag team for that matter) out of the ring, he's distracted. He won't notice a pin and could miss a weapon attack if you choose to take that route to victory. Tornado is one option for tag matches; in a Tornado Tag match, all members of the tag team occupy the ring simultaneously. Double teams maneuvers are key here--both inflicting damage with them and avoiding them if you're on the receiving end. Go after the weakest opponent to set him up for the pinfall. Finally, if you're playing with a manager, get their help! Fight near them so the manager can interfere.

Hardcore
Rules are thrown out of the ring for Hardcore matches. There are no disqualifications; weapon attacks are completely legal and definitely encouraged. Weapons inflict serious damage and provide ample boost to your Smackdown meter. Control the weapons. Strike your opponent with standing and ground strikes. You can also employ unique grapples while holding the weapons to keep your opponent off guard and unable to accurately predict counter measures. Likewise, when your opponent holds the weapon, be ready to counter strikes and grapples to steal the weapon.

Lumber Jack

Select your allies to hang outside the ring during a Lumber Jack match.
Select your allies to hang outside the ring during a Lumber Jack match.

A Lumber Jack match seems like a standard one-on-one match; however, both participants have three allies outside the ring ready to assist when necessary. These allies don't enter the ring but their presence is certainly felt. The allies can interfere by grabbing at the wrestlers' ankles when the wrestler stands near the apron. Also, the allies can grab a wrestler and drop their throat on the rope. But the real punishment occurs if one wrestler gets tossed out of the ring. Now the allies are free to pummel the wrestler as much as possible. Keep the in-ring battle near your allies so they can grab ankles and distract your opponent as much as possible. Once grabbed, your opponent typically turns around to face the ally. This leaves your opponent open to a rear grapple or strike. Go for a school boy pin or send him on an atomic drop.

Bra and Panties
Select your favorite WWE Diva (or, by nature of this match, perhaps your opponent should be your favorite WWE Diva) to participate in a Bra and Panties match where the goal isn't to go for a pin but instead to get your opponent down to just bra and panties. To rip off clothes, press down and the grapple button (circle). You'll begin to rip off the shirt or pants and must button mash as you would during a submission move. Press buttons as fast as possible to get the indicator to the left. If it gets all the way left, the shirt or pants come off. If you take too long or the indicator reaches "Escape," then the move is avoided. Wear your opponent down before attempting to tear off clothes; the indicator will start further to the left making the act of ripping much easier.

Match Strategies - cont.
Royal Rumble
A total of 30 participants enter the ring, though not all at once. It begins with a few combatants and additional superstars enter after certain intervals. The goal is to be the last man or woman in the ring. Should you be tossed out of the ring at any point, you're out of the Royal Rumble. Surviving a Royal Rumble against 29 computer-controlled superstars isn't an easy task. Certainly it gets easier the closer you are to participant 30; by that time most of the superstars will have already been eliminated. Irish whipping at the ropes is your maneuver of choice here. Grapple your opponent close to the ropes and perform the Irish whip maneuver to send them over the rope. Should they try and hang on, give them a couple strikes to knock them off. But standing near the ropes is dangerous. Your opponents are very adept at the same move.

Handicap and Elimination Chamber
There are several match types when you're outnumbered (such as Triple Threat, Fatal 4-Way, and the Handicap variations) so it'll be important to avoid getting double-teamed (or worse) and pick your battles when inflicting damage on your opponents. Hit and run techniques work well, especially if you're getting pummeled every time you try and hang around and perform multiple moves in succession. Don't hesitate to hang back and let your opponents inflict damage to each other then move in for a big strike or move when an opportunity presents itself.

The Eliminate Chamber is a six-man event: two superstars begin in the ring and the other four are locked in chambers.
The Eliminate Chamber is a six-man event: two superstars begin in the ring and the other four are locked in chambers.

The Elimination Chamber is a six superstar elimination event. Two superstars begin the match while four others are each in chambers. Every 60 seconds, a new superstar is released from his or her chamber and enters the match. Outlast and defeat all opponents to achieve victory. Avoid getting blasted by multiple opponents. Hang outside the ring and wait for an opponent to come to you. Pinfalls count anywhere and you can whip your opponents into the chambers to bring the pain.

Ladder, Tables, and TLC
There are several match modes available where ladders, tables, and chairs (or all three!) play a role. In a Ladder match, a belt is suspended above the ring. You must set up the Ladder underneath the belt then climb the ladder and successfully grab the belt to win the match. Don't forget you can use the ladder as a weapon. Pick it up and pound your opponent with the ladder before setting it up in the ring's center. Crack a finisher on your opponent outside the ring to give you time to get onto the ladder and grab the belt.

In a table match, you must set up a table and send your opponent through the table to win the match. You could also send them up against the table in a turnbuckle then crack a chair on their back a few times to possibly break the table.

A TLC match is a tables, ladders, and chairs match. All three can be used as weapons and you must set up the ladder in the ring center to reach the belt hanging up overhead. Weapons are your friend here. Make sure to keep your opponents down with a thorough beating. And watch the ring center carefully and be ready to push that ladder over if your opponent makes a climb for the belt.

Hell in a Cell
The Hell in a Cell match is similar to a cage match; however, combatants can climb on top of the cell and battle there. Additionally, the top of the cell can break; just slam your opponent into top sections until they break. You can also perform grapples around the cage edge, such as rubbing your opponent's face into the cage. Falling damage is extremely painful to you and your opponents. Toss your opponent off the cage top. While your opponent lies on the ground below, come off the cage top with a flying elbow.

Chapter 4: Season Mode Tips

This section provides tips for WWE Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain's season story mode. In season mode, you select a WWE superstar (or a created wrestler) and participate in a series of storylines through an entire year in the WWE. The appearance of storylines isn't set, so expect the order of storylines to change as you play season mode multiple times. And you will begin to see storylines repeated as well. This section will provide tips on surviving your year in the WWE and the different activities you can engage in while joining the RAW or Smackdown roster.

The Superstar of Your Choice
When you enter season mode you can select nearly every WWE superstar in the game (unavailable wrestlers include the divas, Vince McMahon and Eric Bischoff). You can choose to use the WWE's superstars' original statistics or start from scratch. If you choose a superstar with high statistics, expect an easier road to championship matches and have an easier time battling against tough foes like Brock Lesnar, Goldberg, and Triple H. If you choose to enter with low statistics, you'll have to earn your stripes as a "jobber," essentially a wrestler that's a virtual punching bag for the roster's more popular superstars. It will be an uphill, challenging, yet rewarding battle. Note that if you choose original or new statistics, you will be able to increase your superstar's statistics by earning experience during the season.

Your choice of superstar can make season mode easier or much harder. Choose a headlining superstar like the Undertaker to contend for the belt and smash jobbers left and right.
Your choice of superstar can make season mode easier or much harder. Choose a headlining superstar like the Undertaker to contend for the belt and smash jobbers left and right.

If you want an easier time in season with the ability to go after title belts very quickly (as well as appear on the pay-per-views as early as possible), then select an established, high-profile wrestler like the Undertaker, Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle, Triple H, or Goldberg. You'll likely appear every week on RAW or Smackdown and have the ability to earn lots of Smackdown dollars and experience.

But if you want a greater challenge, start with low statistics (or pick a less-established wrestler with a lower overall rating) or use a created wrestler and work your way from the bottom to the top over the course of a season or several seasons. You'll be pummeled by the top wrestlers but will get your shot. Be sure to convince Vince, Eric, and Stephanie to get you matches so you can build your experience and SP, which is essentially your wrestler's popularity level. The higher your SP, the more visible you will be in weekly shows and pay-per-views.

Note that all legends (including those available in the ShopZone) can be added to the season rosters. You can use the legends or just have them on the roster to participate in matches and stables.

Surviving as a Created Wrestler
When you create a new wrestler, you have 250 experience points to raise attributes. As you'll find out, that's not much experience! You won't be able to hang with the big boys; in fact, you'll likely be pummeled when you're in there and not even on the match card on other occasions.

Here are some tips on surviving as a created wrestler so you can build your experience and increase your attributes.

  • Join a tag team as early as possible. If you participate in tag matches, you can pick a partner that has better stats than your own. You can use your partner during the match or order your partner to help out if you get into trouble during the battle.
  • Try and get hardcore matches. With no disqualifications, you're free to grab weapons and pummel your opponent. All things considered, statistics are fairly even when a chair is cracked over your head or choked with a sledgehammer.
  • Join a faction. Get into a faction with other WWE superstars so you can call on their interference during certain matches (R3 button) and fight with them in other matches.
  • If the match has disqualification on, knock the ref out by nailing him with a clothesline (don't focus on the ref, however!) so you can use weapons or smash your opponent's head into an exposed turnbuckle.
  • Get a manager. It might not be available for awhile but if you ever have the chance to get a manager, do so. It's another ally out there during the battle. The manager can distract your opponent or even lay the smack down when your opponent exits the squared circle.

Dealing with Superstars
Between matches you'll have numerous chances to interact with other WWE superstars backstage. Select the "Move" option from your locker and check to see if there are any superstars willing to talk. These encounters are unpredictable and the consequences to your actions are almost as unpredictable. You might be nice and lose experience or Smackdown points or you might be mean and lose experience and Smackdown points.

You don't have to speak with the WWE superstars backstage but it's a fun part of the game and adds to the storylines. Plus you sometimes get to fight backstage!
You don't have to speak with the WWE superstars backstage but it's a fun part of the game and adds to the storylines. Plus you sometimes get to fight backstage!

You don't have to navigate backstage or ever speak with any of the superstars. That way you won't risk losing Smackdown points or experience. However, you could miss out. You may get offered a match or even the chance to gain an ally. But encountering an enemy in a backstage room could very well lead to a fight. There are no rules here; grab a weapon and start pummeling your opponent. While backstage, be sure to try out different items, like the motorcycle or treadmill. You should also try and Irish whip your opponent into crates, barrels, and other obstacles that could reveal hidden weapons.

Navigating Storylines
The beauty of WWE Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain's season mode are the plentiful storylines which can play out in a variety of ways with you as a primary participant. Feud with Brock Lesnar, get romantically involved with your female manager, or become part of a faction versus faction battle as the marquee match-up on the pay-per-view card.

There's no right or wrong here. There's no game-killing choice that will present a "Game Over" screen and ruin your character. You may get on a roller coaster ride of popularity, though. You may spend the summer on top of the match cards and a contender for all title matches and then find the next spring battling jobbers with no title run in sight.

Being champion does have its perks. You'll earn more Smackdown dollars for matches and you could very well have two or three matches per card, which will increase your income considerably. Note that you can hold multiple titles at any given time. Go for the tag team championship while holding the WWE Championship belt!

Speak with the general manager if you want a chance to switch rosters.
Speak with the general manager if you want a chance to switch rosters.

If you get tired of feuding with the same Smackdown or RAW wrestlers, visit the general manager and request a roster change. It won't happen immediately, though; keep battling a month or so and then you will be switched.

Your choice of difficulty level in the game options affects season mode. Obviously your computer-controlled opponents will perform better based on the difficulty level but you will also earn more dollars and experience when facing the harder opponents.

If you want to use season mode to more easily train your created wrestler, use "Create" mode to make a lot of "jobber" wrestlers to beat up on (wrestlers with the lowest ratings possible). Put them all into season mode and into your show's roster (either Smackdown or RAW). Turn on "Smackdown" difficulty so you'll earn the most experience possible. Control your created wrestler and start fighting those weak jobbers.

Season mode is your chance to live out your wrestler's storylines however you wish. Form a faction and name that faction. Form a new tag team and name it. Give it some music and an entrance. Request a manager and show her your affection. Attack everyone after matches to make some enemies.

Chapter 5: Create a Wrestler
This section provides tips on using WWE Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain's create a wrestler mode. In this example, we'll create a former WWE superstar: the Ultimate Warrior. This classic WWE wrestler has his own move sets that can be unlocked in ShopZone. Purchase Move Set #4 to unlock Ultimate Warrior's move set (#71), which includes two new special moves.

Ultimate Warrior
The Ultimate Warrior is a popular, old school WWE wrestler featured through the late 80s and early 90s. He participated in some classic Wrestlemania matches, including the time the Ultimate Warrior went title for title versus Hulk Hogan. The Ultimate Warrior carried the Intercontinental Championship and Hulk Hogan wore the World Heavy Championship. It was the main event and the Ultimate Warrior unified the title in beating one of the most decorated wrestlers ever.

Another classic Warrior match was his "retirement" match against Randy "Macho Man" Savage. It was a grueling match for both combatants. Savage unleashed his special move, the flying elbow off the top rope, several times in a row before Warrior kicked out. The Warrior unleashed his own special move, the splash, and Savage also kicked out. The Ultimate Warrior was the eventual winner but the true highlight was the culmination of Savage's heel storyline, which came to an end that night as he was reunited with Miss Elizabeth.

The Ultimate Warrior was one of the more colorful wrestlers, though primarily with his outfits and not his personality.
The Ultimate Warrior was one of the more colorful wrestlers, though primarily with his outfits and not his personality.

Ultimate Warrior was primarily defined by his hair (elegant 80s rock band-like locks), his bright, colorful wrestling trunks, wristbands, and pads, his tassels, his face paint, and of course his muscles. We'll provide some suggestions on how to mold Ultimate Warrior's looks and attire to get you started on creating this former superstar.

The Body
Enter "Create" mode and select the male body type. Select "Appearance" to begin editing Ultimate Warrior's look. Select "Figure" to adjust his body.

Body Morphing: The Ultimate Warrior was between "beefy" and "buff". Move the toggles to the right side of the triangle and place it between the two. It would be around X: 60 and Y: 25.

Select "Form" to adjust the various parts of your Ultimate Warrior's body. These are just approximations. You can adjust these numbers to your liking but this will give you a good starting point based on the face chosen.

Head: -30, -30, 25
Neck: 60, 25, -35
Chest: 25, -15, 5
Shoulders: -50, 35, 35
Abdomen: 0, -40, -15
Arms: 15, -10, -70
Forearms: -30, -10
Hands: 10, -20, -60
Waist: -25, -30
Thighs: 5, 0
Legs: 0, -15, -35
Feet: -25, -10, -50

Select "Height" and choose 6'3".

Go to the previous menu and select "Edit Parts" to start editing his body.

Head: Select part 24 or 27 and use face model 10. Toggle his "age" to around the -40 mark.

The following options are under the "Head" selection:

Eyebrow: This is the depth and angle of the eyebrows. Not that important with the face paint you'll have going.

Eyes: The width and height of the eyes. Just make sure they're nice and visible.

Nose: The height and size of the nose. Warrior had a strong, thin nose. Toggle to around X: -30 and Y: 90. Adjust the angle and length just into the negative for both values.

Cheek: Move Warrior's cheek size around the middle, perhaps just slightly in the negative.

Mouth: Here you adjust Warrior's mouth width, angle, and depth. Move the width just into the negative so it's not wide but also not pursed lips either. The other values can remain at default unless you desire to change them.

Jaw: This adjusts Warrior's jaw width, length, and depth. Not many changes needed here. Lengthen the Warrior's jaw slightly.

Save your changes and return to the body menu to complete the other parts.

Skin: Give your Ultimate Warrior a chiseled look, so select either part 2 or part 4. He was also typically tanned so choose the skin color of your choice, somewhere around the 5 color.

Hair: Go over to page #4 and select hair part 35 to best represent Ultimate Warrior's trademark hair. Adjust the color to a light, golden brown (around X: -80 and Y: 10). Get that hair nice and long around 45.

Eyebrows: This will be covered by face paint so just use the default.

Eyes: This is a matter of taste as there are many that will look appropriate. Select wider open eyes that are grayish blue in color, such as parts 1, 31, 39, and 43.

Facial Hair: None

Lips: Another matter of taste. Default might be just fine or something like part 27. Blend the lips in pretty much with the face. They shouldn't be too pronounced.

Ultimate Warrior - cont.
The Attire
Next it's time to clothe the Ultimate Warrior. There's no head attire. He didn't wear any caps or hats and the mask isn't the same option as the face paint. Go directly to the lower attire to begin his costume.

Underwear: The Warrior wore fairly standard wrestling skivvies. Select either the part 1 or part 15. Now you can select a pattern from the next parts list. There are tons to choose from. The Ultimate Warrior typically had one some bright outfits so choose a bright yellow or green.

Knee Pads: Choose either part 5 or part 8. You can then choose a pattern or go with a color that complements your trunks.

Shoes: His exact boots aren't an option but something around part 10 or 11 will suit nicely.

Change menus to upper attire.

Wrist Bands: Select some wristbands. Part 19 works fairly well. You can color them to match your other clothing or even pick a matching pattern.

Jackets: Though he didn't fight in one, you could choose a coat for the Warrior's entrance outfit. Try something like part 12.

The Accessories
Choose the "Accessories" menu then go into the "Head" section to find the face paint.

Here's a close-up of Ultimate Warrior's face paint. There's no one choice here. Don't hesitate to mix up your options for your favorite look.

Paint: The cool thing about the face paint is you can put on multiple parts and use them in combination to create Ultimate Warrior's face paint. For instance, try 30, 31, 32, and 151. You'll also find 125, 114, 104, 95, and 63 can be used in combinations for great effect.

Proceed to the "Design" menu.

Select "Picture" and find part 69. It's close to the Warrior's trademark symbol. You could put this on his chest (select body), his trunks, his wristbands, or his boots (or any combination). Change its size to fit and then its color to match your outfit.

Select the "Simple" menu and check out the small tattoos on Ultimate Warrior's face after you apply the face paint. You may find an addition you like.

Select the "Letter" menu. You can apply letters to his body to act as the ropes that were around his biceps and legs. Use the "-" symbol under the sign menu and adjust its size and position to look like arm and leg tassels.

The Moves
If you want to use an "authentic" Ultimate Warrior move set, you must acquire $2,500 Smackdown dollars and unlock Move Set #4 in the ShopZone area of season mode. Ultimate Warrior's move set is #71.

Enter "Create" mode and select "Create a Move Set". Choose "Created Superstars" under the first menu and choose your Ultimate Warrior. Instead of editing every individual move, go down to the "Auto Setting" option. Select "Auto Setting" and choose "Superstars" under the next menu. Keep going to the right until you find the move sets you unlocked in ShopZone. Select #71 OUW, which is Ultimate Warrior's move set.

Unlock Ultimate Warrior's move set so you can use his two special moves. Ahhh…the Warrior splash!

Ultimate Warrior has two special moves--the Ultimate Bomber Pin and the Ultimate Slam & Splash. The Ultimate Bomber Pin is a great sequence with Warrior's trademark little jig and a series of clotheslines followed by a splash. The Ultimate Slam & Splash is a press slam followed by a splash to the back. Both Smackdown finishers are employed when facing a groggy opponent.

Chapter 6: ShopZone
Play season mode to earn "Smackdown Dollars" to purchase items from ShopZone, the game's collection of unlockables. ShopZone houses move sets (which unlock new moves and taunts for use in "Create a Wrestler" mode), legendary wrestlers, attires, loading screens, and arenas. This section reveals all unlockable items and their prices.

Move Sets
These move sets appear in the game's "Create" mode. Select "Create a Move Set" and choose the "Auto" setting to find the move sets. These sets can be used for your created and default wrestlers. Many of these move sets are directly associated with a former wrestler (each move set typically has the wrestler's initials as part of its designation). For instance, move set #70 is Hulk Hogan's move set and #71 is Ultimate Warrior. Moves set #4 has a great set of classic wrestlers, such as Bret Hart (#33), Andre the Giant (#34), Mr. Perfect (#31), and Sting (#40).

Find the unlocked move sets in the 'Auto Setting' section of 'Create a Move Set'. Select 'Superstars' and navigate to the right to find the unlocked sets.

Note that unlocking the move sets also unlocks more moves and taunts to choose from in the "Create" mode. So you don't have to use the specific move sets in order to utilize the new moves and taunts they introduce. Just find them in their appropriate section and switch them out in your favorite wrestler's move list.

Chapter 7: Secrets
Looking for a few secrets to uncover in WWE Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain? Check out this section.

Unlock the "Credits" movie by completing the season mode at least once with any available WWE superstar or created wrestler. Watch the entire credits movie to witness John Cena do a little freestyling.

Unlock the ability to skip season matches by completing the season mode at least once with any available WWE superstar or created wrestler. Note that you won't receive as many Smackdown dollars for a skipped match and you will very likely lose the match. Use with caution!

During season mode, you may have the opportunity to fight backstage. If you're in the training room, check out the cracked wall. Irish whip your opponent into the cracked wall or let your opponent Irish whip you into the cracks. A few times and the wall crumbles revealing a secret "Diva" alcove.

Also in the training room, press the "square" button against the treadmill to get onto the exercise tool. Use "X" to run and watch as your Smackdown meter begins to fill.
