WWE Announces New Weekly Series Featuring Its UK Superstars
WWE gets global starting Wednesday, October 17.
WWE has yet another weekly original series headed to the WWE Network. Continuing to grow itself as a global brand, WWE is launching NXT UK, a weekly series showcasing the talent of its superstars from the UK.
The UK's biggest stars in the world of sports entertainment will be included in the show. This will include Pete Dunne, Mark Andrews, Rhea Ripley, Toni Storm, Tyler Bate, Trent Seven, and Wolfgang. Nigel McGuinness and Vic Joseph will handle commentary for the new series, and Johnny Saint will act as general manager of the show. "NXT UK is the next step in our global localization strategy, and we are proud to do this in a place where WWE has had a special relationship for more than 30 years," WWE Executive Vice President, Talent, Live Events, & Creative explained in a press release.
The seeds for this new show started back in early 2017, when the WWE Network held the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament, in which Tyler Bate won the title after defeating Pete Dunne in the finals. The title began appearing on NXT episodes, where Pete Dunne won the championship at NXT Takeover: Chicago. While the title is primarily fought for between stars from the UK, Johnny Gargano was the first wrestler from outside of the UK to challenge the champion, which was unsuccessful on the November 22 episode of NXT.
For those keeping track at home, here is WWE's weekly schedule, as of October 17:
- Monday: Raw
- Tuesday: Smackdown Live and Mixed Match Challenge (Seasonal)
- Wednesday: NXT, 205 Live, NXT UK, and Mae Young Classic (Seasonal)
It's worth noting that starting on October 19, 2019, Smackdown Live will move from Tuesdays to Fridays and from the USA Network to Fox. It hasn't been announced yet whether or not the series will continue to air live though.
The first episode of NXT UK comes to the WWE Network on Wednesday, October 17 at 8 PM BT /3 PM ET / 12 PM PT.
