The original story is below.

The release date for Blizzard's upcoming World of Warcraft expansion, Legion, has been leaked online just a day before BlizzCon kicks off. The date was spotted online in an image hosted on the Battle.net website which reads, "Expected game release on or before September 21st, 2016."

No Caption Provided

The image also details some pre-purchase bonuses, including a Level 100 character boost and early access to the new Demon Hunter hero class. A standard edition of the game will be priced at $49.99. On top of that, the digital deluxe edition will include an in-game mount, pet, and digital content for Diablo 3 and StarCraft 2 for $69.99.

World of Warcraft: Legion was first announced at Gamescom in August this year. The expansion will raise the level cap to 110 and introduce a new class called the Demon Hunter. Legion will add a host of new content including a new continent titled The Broken Isles, new customisable artifact weapons, and new dungeons and raids. The expansion will also revamp the player-versus-player progression system.

The beta for World of Warcraft: Legion starts this year. Players can sign up to participate on the Battle.net website. For more details on what's new in Legion, check out our previous coverage.

I love the music, the music alone makes me come back. Doesn't matter how watered down the game is, I'll always come back for the collector editions soundtracks. All the expansion packs with no exception has had good music. Can't beat putting on the WotLK CD in my cd player. Incredible score, plus brings back memories. I ain't raiding, or playing the endgame content anymore, but leveling is always a satisfying experience. So yeah, that plus the music, oh yeah I'll buy Legion collectors as well.

@rahl247: Because that $0.16 extra per day was such a bitter pill to swallow?

@customx5: Ha! Pointing out that $5 a month is equivalent to 16 cents a day makes me a Blizzard fanboy? That's funny. You probably should have stayed in school and learned more about logic, because with logic like that, you couldn't have made it past the 6th grade.

What's your story? I see you like hanging out in Blizzard news threads...wait a sec...is that you Justin Bieber?

@DaSlyOne: Because pointing out that it's only $0.16 cents extra per day sounds a bit either like you're a fanboy or trolling the guy. And given the fact you're commenting on a world of warcraft article I'm going to strongly assume you're a fanboy who's butt-hurt over his comment. If he values the subscription at $10.00 then that's what he values it at. I don't blame him given the fact that the content is going to be the same for another year. Is that logic enough for you Mr. Sly child?

September 2016? Seems like a bit silly considering the falling wow numbers. I thought Blizzard had promised their subscribers more content and faster delivery of that content. They are still doing 2 years between expansions which seems ridiculous.

@Evenios: if you preorder right now the game will play itself up to lvl 100, then it will keep playing until it gets bored, and then it will cancel the account and unninstall the game. all of that in about 1 second.

And subscription cancelled. Not going to stay subbed for the abhorrent lack of engaging content in the game currently, especially if it really doesn't launch until September - that's about £100 I'm not prepared to waste on Facebook minigames, PVP with bots, and dull LFR.

$50 dollars for an expansion is a JOKE, $10 dollars shy of a full retail game, no thanks blizzard, you used to be less greedy when you were serious about creating an mmo, now all about greed and offering less.

@customx5: It's not $50 though is it, you have to count the content drought from now till release sub fee as well.

It's a fucking joke, and the wow fanboys in this thread make me depressed in the human race.

@billzihang: 6.2 came out in September, and there will be a pre-patch at least 1 month before Legion actually comes out, so it'll be about 10 months I suspect. At most a year.

It ain't perfect, but it's A LOT better than what happened with MoP.

Calling me a "fanboi" isn't going to sway me nor anybody else.

@Kunasha: No it's not. It's literally exactly the same. Like MoP or hate it, at least it gave all the raid tiers and new zones. WoD is a chopped up, year long mes snow stretched close enough to two year to not be worth bickering over. Legion needed to happen by mid spring. This is a gigantic slap to the face.

@billzihang: But unlike other devs, Blizzard also likes to say "it's done when it is done", so they actively admit to taking their sweet time. It's like two strikes.

Since they have been talking about Legion so much, I thought it was coming out by year's end, or early next year at the latest. This is a really big window now.

The problem is that they talked about this expansion far too early. Why tell us about something when it's over a year away?

@Ovirew: To keep players interested in WoW. If they aren't developing any new content month-to-month on WoD anymore, they might as well tell people what they are working on in Legions in hopes to drive interest in WoW generally.

@ditronus: Which is funny because that makes it easier to unsub. Before they announced a release date, people were speculating it would come out sooner.
