Legion was announced at Gamescom 2015. The expansion raises the level cap to 110 and introduces a new class called the Demon Hunter. Legion also adds a host of new content including a new continent titled The Broken Isles, new customizable artifact weapons, and new dungeons and raids. In addition, the expansion revamps the PvP progression system, among other things.

"Legion opens a dark and thrilling new chapter in one of the Warcraft series' greatest conflicts, and things will never be the same for some of Azeroth's most iconic heroes and villains," Blizzard CEO and co-founder Mike Morhaime said in a statement. "This expansion is loaded with features and content that give players whole new ways to explore the world and customize their heroes. We're looking forward to sending everyone into battle against the Burning Legion this August."

A Standard Edition of Legion will be available for $50, while a Digital Deluxe version can be purchased for $70. This premium bundle also comes with content for other Blizzard games, including Heroes of the Storm, Diablo III, and StarCraft II. Both versions are available physically and digitally.

There will also be a retail-only Collector's Edition that sells for $90 and comes with a hardcover art book, behind-the-scenes two-disc Blu-ray/DVD set, CD soundtrack, and a Legion mousepad, as well as the digital items from the Digital Deluxe edition.

If you pre-purchase a digital copy of Legion, either the Standard or Digital Deluxe edition, you will receive an instant character boost to level 100. Pre-buying also gives you early access to the Demon Hunter class.

Previous World of Warcraft expansions have included: The Burning Crusade (2007), Wrath of the Lich King (2008), Cataclysm (2010), Mists of Pandaria (2012), and Warlords of Draenor (2014).

With World of Warcraft subscribers sliding, a new expansion could help bring people back. After all, history has shown that new expansions tend to do just that.

I'll wait till it comes out on the private servers. I haven't paid for WoW since Burning Crusade.

WoW was the game that would make or break the company at the time. It became a huge success, which is why the focused heavily on its development. Now with all the other Blizz games they are maintaining, the content flow for WoW has slowed down to a crawl. Oh well.

Avatar image for Paulf001

The main reason this game has tanked in subs is they go through periods of a year and a half without new content. That is ok for games without a sub but for one you have to pay extra just to play it is no good.

OK, so I've played WoW off-and-on since 2005. During long periods between expansions I usually fall away, then I come back during the next expansion and begin the cycle anew. I feel that waiting until August is just way too long. I had been hoping for June, and was considering re-upping my subscription prior to June to get back into the world prior to the expansion launch (there's usually a pre-patch which implements many new changes and sometimes a pre-expansion event, etc), but now I guess I'll wait until the expansion gets closer and I actually see the pre-patch implemented before I go back.

As far as the health of WoW, I actually like the convenience features added like matchmaking, for the most part, but I just felt like they didn't push out expansions fast enough, despite saying they wanted to. This will mark like 18 months since Warlords of Draenor came out or something I heard, so it's understandable that people are getting sick and tired of the content.

So I'll go back in August or sometime in the summer. I have high hopes for Legion, with many new changes to talents and with the artifacts, and I hope more heirlooms, since I LOVE leveling alts (I'm an altaholic). I'll play through at least once to level 110, then assess what the "end game" content consists of, since I don't raid except for LFR (due to time constraints). I may end up quitting again 6 months later, who knows, but I hope the game will keep me engaged enough that I'll stick with it.

Same game since 2004....

Avatar image for ganondorf77

@darzentas: That is the problem, it's not at all that game.

Avatar image for Tiwill44

You know a game is bad when it encourages you to skip its own core gameplay mechanics.

WoW is a timesink.

I don't understand when people try to differentiate between "casual" and "hardcore" in this game, it's not the same as it is with others. The only real difference is the amount of time you spend into the game.

WoW is an insanely braindead game otherwise.

I still find it amazing they can charge full price for an expansion yet still require a monthly payment. Blizzard be doin' good!

Avatar image for Patrickmahan

They're still making these?

Avatar image for Itzsfo0

@Patrickmahan: and successful as ever

Avatar image for fedor

@Itzsfo0: not even close.

Avatar image for off3nc3

@fedor: Yea they are it's still the best MMORPG on the market and have the highest sub count. Truth hurts i know..

Avatar image for fedor

@off3nc3: best is your opinion. They're also just the highest paid sub mmo. Not even close to having the highest sub count anymore. I'm also still activley playing wow, probably at a far higher level than you. Truth hurts, I know...

Avatar image for off3nc3

@fedor: Sounds kinda sad to bash an active MMO you play and pay for , sounds like a love-hate relationship to me. Also I have been playing it since Vanilla :) So I doubt you ever played it at my level/skill or for that long :) now that's a fact ! But keep on hatin' and playin' and paying !

Avatar image for fedor

@off3nc3: I've been around since vanilla too. So what? It means Jack. Also haven't paid for the game in months. Tokens exist, ya scrub. Go back to failing lfr.

Avatar image for philip6k

I wish I was still a virgin so I could check this game out.

Avatar image for fedor

@philip6k: you saying that makes me think you're still a virgin that's too broke to play.

Avatar image for DarkAztaroth

@fedor: or that his gf/bf has so much influence over him that he cant play what he feels like

Avatar image for philip6k

@DarkAztaroth: LOL you guys are hilarious and so butthurt. These types a game require so much of your personal time to do anything in them. There's more to life than sitting on a computer chair.

Avatar image for DarkAztaroth

@philip6k: not necessarily, though id say if you play less than 4 hours a month its not really worth the sub

Avatar image for Zyconnic

I come back with every expansion hoping they changed the core game into something meaning full with lots of actually interaction between players, valid achievements (not just PvP / Raids), interesting content and a more "hardcore" feel (You need to actually work to get something done).

Instead I am met with more "casual" mechanics (raid finder, instant lvl 100, Garrison, server groups, simpler skill tree, etc.) which only promotes solo play. I could play with a world full of NPC's and I wouldn't find it any different. I never felt so alone in a MMO game as I do in WoW and they just seem to keep the same pace while adding more solo mechanics to the game.

This expansion will not fix my issues with the game, thus I will only be watching the news about how they adding nothing new but still managed to "add" a ridiculous new system (like pokemon).

(Sorry for the rant)

Make a WoW 2 or Warcraft 4

Avatar image for ganondorf77

@Hagan: warcraft 4 is the next big AAA non-expansion and with strong SP component that Blizz is going to release, it's my guess, but perhaps it's still 4 years for an employee to say something, 8 for it to be real and perhaps 12 for it to be released from now. That's the definition of "soon" that Blizz uses anyway.

Avatar image for elkethus

Awesome looking forward to World of Warcraft Legion is 1 of the most importan part of the lore and i am so hyped. screw the hater you can eat my ,,,,

Avatar image for fedor

It's a casual money grab at this point. Blizzards just using it to finance other titles.

Avatar image for elkethus

@fedor: Oh look another complainer your opinion is invalid if you did not complet heroic 13/13

Avatar image for fedor

@elkethus: post your mains armory. I'm gonna find you online tonight and absolutely murder you. Come at me, pleb.

Avatar image for rmokeefe76

Avatar image for wasteland2058

@fedor: is this e-fight still going down? I want to watch

Avatar image for fedor

@wasteland2058: he lied. It wasn't his toon he linked.

Avatar image for whatsazerg

Instant lvl to 100 is representative of exactly what went wrong with WoW and why I no longer play it.

Avatar image for carsomnyr

@whatsazerg: Why are you using it than? personaly i prefer leveling up normaly doing quests but others being able to get the levels by paying doesnt make my experience any less fun.

Avatar image for elkethus

@whatsazerg: Leveling is only your training real shit start at max level. if you think leveling is a importantpart of the game then you are a noob. You said your self (YOU no longuer play but you still judge the game even if you dont know what going on people like you should stop gaming really

Avatar image for Smosh150

@whatsazerg: Gotta agree with the other two. The grinding in games like this has become such a drag(Especially with those managing time between school, work etc) that they cannot sit down and do quest after quest. Applies to other mmos as well. Not like it is game breaking or anything, everyone else is shooting for level 100 too.

Avatar image for dhracox

@7tizz: hahaha spot on!

Avatar image for tonyleo01

@whatsazerg: I do think it's a good option if you just wanna get to the new content. Grinding a 100 levels is kind of daunting (and boring) if you don't really have someone to play with.

Avatar image for Utnayan

@tonyleo01: You can get from 1 to 100 in a weekend.

Avatar image for RossRichard

WoD + Guild Wars 2 world scaling + Diablo 3 bounties = Legion.

Avatar image for Ballroompirate

People wanna blame WoD for WoW's downfall when in reality it's Blizzards fault for not releasing content fast enough or at all, cause sorry 13 months with no new content is gonna drive people away. Look at Wotlk probably arguably one of the best if not the best WoW expansion (BC would be the other contender), they came out with content at a steady pace with Wotlk, BC and even vanilla WoW, I mean hell you compare the patch notes from those updates/expansions and you can see how much they put work into WoW from vanilla to Wotlk.

WoD was pretty decent for what it did, it brought a lot of WC3/WC characters "back to life", even garrisons were pretty fun except every garrison looked the same. I know people wanna blame garrisons for part of the downfall of WoW cause it "made people not sociable", like they thought people were sociable pre WoD? uhhh hell no the MoP hubs were worse and Org/IF/SW were dead long before WoD and hell no one barely used TB, UC or DN as hubs even pre Wotlk.

Is Legion gonna save WoW?, most likely no cause there's MMO's out there that are just as good as WoW.

Avatar image for luert

wonder how much longer it'll last

Avatar image for jessie82

@7tizz: wow thats one shitty system then

Avatar image for ferna1234

more wow? yay... seriuously. ..... not really.
