Following rumours and leaks, Wargaming has now confirmed World of Tanks is set for release on PlayStation 4.

TJ Wagner, project lead on the PS4 version of Wargaming's successful massively multiplayer title, explained the studio is "tuning the experience specifically" for Sony's console.

The game will debut with new content never seen before, including "custom maps, custom tanks, custom skins, and more." It will also launch with exclusive Girls und Panzer content and themes.

The PS4 version will support Share Play, PS Vita Remote Play, streaming "and more." As with the PC version, it is free-to-play, with in-game microtransactions.

Online play is not gated behind a PlayStation Plus subscription, so all PlayStation Network account holders can play. Those interested can sign up for access to the upcoming beta and release version of World of Tanks for PlayStation 4 here.

World of Tanks was first launched in 2011 for the PC. An Xbox 360 version was released in February last year.

In July 2015, Wargaming announced the global release of World of Tanks for Xbox One. The game featured cross-play between its Xbox One and Xbox 360 versions. The Xbox One also introduced a Player versus Environment mode called Proving Grounds.
