Wonderful 101 Remastered Physical Copies Delayed Due To Coronavirus

Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, developer Platinum Games has pushed back the release date for physical versions of The Wonderful 101: Remastered. The game will now arrive on store shelves on June 30 in North America and July 3 in Europe.

The remaster was originally slated to launch on Nintendo Switch, PC, and PlayStation 4 on May 19 in North America, May 22 in Europe, and June 11 in Japan. Platinum Games cited "unforeseen circumstances," such as store closures and "the many restrictions consumers and businesses are currently facing," as to why the studio decided to delay the physical release date of the remaster.

"We want to offer our sincerest apologies to everyone who has been anticipating the game's release, but we hope we can have your understanding regarding these unforeseen circumstances," Platinum Games said. "We are continuing to apply our best efforts to make sure that The Wonderful 101: Remastered will be able to reach everyone safely."

The digital release of The Wonderful 101: Remastered is still on track to drop on May 19 in North America and May 22 in Europe. The digital and physical release date for Japan (June 11) remains unaffected.

"The health and safety of everyone involved in getting The Wonderful 101: Remastered into stores was a key factor in our decision to delay [the] release of the game, in addition to store closures and the many restrictions consumers and businesses are currently facing," publisher Nighthawk Interactive added. "We're looking forward to delivering this action-packed experience to stores from June 30."

Platinum Games shared a trailer for the remaster in March that showed off the upgraded visuals. The trailer came not long after the official Kickstarter campaign wrapped up with more than $2 million pledged.
