Wolverine 3 Could Bring Back Classic Villain

Sabretooth might be coming back.

It may have been a commercial and critical disappointment, but 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine featured a number of smaller characters that are subsequently returning to the screen. Ryan Reynolds first played Deadpool in that film, while card-throwing Gambit will be getting his own Channing Tatum-starring movie, following his portrayal by Taylor Kitsch in Origins. Now it seems that villainous mutant Sabretooth might also return to the X-Men universe.

Ray Donovan star Liev Schreiber played Sabretooth in that earlier film, and it had been rumoured that he would reprise the character in the upcoming Wolverine 3. Talking to MTV, Schreiber said: "I don't know. He's mentioned it to me. The Old Man Logan story--that's appealing. That's something I can do. Old, being the operative word."

Wolverine 3 will be directed by James Mangold, who previously helmed 2013's The Wolverine, which went on to make more than $400 million worldwide. The film is set to draw from the Old Man Logan line of comic books, a futuristic storyline which sees Wolverine as the world's last remaining mutant.

The film is yet to start production, but last month star Hugh Jackman revealed that the film had a "full script." It is due for release in summer 2017.
