Witcher Dev "Will Think About" The Witcher 4, But Nothing Confirmed Yet

"We like this world a lot. We invested 15 years of our lives in it and a lot of money."

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the last game in the series to star Geralt of Rivia, but it might not be the final game in the franchise overall. During CD Projekt Red's latest management meeting today, executives stressed that the series was conceived as a trilogy, so a fourth game in Geralt's story might not make sense. However, that doesn't mean more games in the series are ruled out.

"The Witcher was designed as a trilogy and a trilogy cannot have a fourth part, can it?" an executive said during a Q&A session that followed the results briefing. "We like this world a lot. We invested 15 years of our lives in it and a lot of money. So, we'll think about [making a fourth Witcher game]."

Some of CD Projekt Red's current projects include Gwent: The Witcher Card Game and Cyberpunk 2077. Additionally, the Polish studio is working on another AAA game.

The Witcher 3 was a critical and commercial success, so The Witcher 4 coming to market eventually seems likely, though it surely won't happen soon. In December 2015, CD Projekt Red CEO Adam Kicinski said it would be unfair to fans of the series not to make a fourth game.

Another CD Projekt Red boss, Marcin Iwinski, said previously that the Witcher series "deserves some rest," while the team shifts to Cyberpunk 2077. "The past 10 years the team has been working on swords and castles and medieval Slavic monsters. So I think it's time for some guns, androids, and some ammo," Iwinski said.

In other news about The Witcher, CD Projekt Red has announced that the franchise has now reached 25 million units sold across the trilogy.
