Earlier this week, CD Projekt Red announced two major expansions for upcoming open-world role-playing game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but the developer didn't say how much they would cost. Now we know.

No Caption Provided

Official descriptions posted on Steam, GOG.com, and the PlayStation Store reveal that the Witcher 3 Expansion Pass--which includes the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine add-ons--will cost $25.

There is no Witcher 3 Expansion Pass product page yet on Xbox.com, but you can bet it will also cost $25 on Microsoft's console.

The Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions will presumably also be sold separately, though prices for individual expansions were not announced.

Hearts of Stone will be released in October 2015, while Blood and Wine is due to launch in early 2016. Together, the expansions will add around 30 hours of gamplay to an already massive game. You can read more about the two expansions through GameSpot's previous coverage.

After multiple delays, The Witcher 3 release date is May 19 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. A new trailer for the game is available above, while some screenshots follow in the gallery below.

This is one game I will gladly pay for the expansion, it's definitely one of my fav RPGs of all time now. I've only got 40hours in so far and I know there's plenty more because when I really like a game I'll take me sweet time with it and I've spent a lot of time just wondering around and seeing what's at the question marks. But man does it give my classified 780 a work out, I play most games with a 100core and 500memory overclock and never seen my gpu get hotter than high 60's. I thought I would check my temps and damn I was at 79C. Now I just play on stock clocks and stay around 60-67.

$25 for two expansions is no too bad at all. Especially if it's 30 more hours. It's the same price as a nice dinner, and you poop that out in just two hours.

2 Meaty expansions for a good price from Witcher 3, while destiny overcharges for a pathetic excuse of a tiny dlc which they try to pass off as an "Expansion"

@zhaffy95: I like CDP and Witche games, but don't judge those expansions before they come out. 30 hours doesn't mean *quality* 30 hours. It can be "Dragon Age Inquisition" 30 hours of pointless, stupid annoying grindy MMO fetch quests. After all this IS an open world game. Those have a tendency to be full of filler, even if done by best companies. I am going to wait till they release before buying that expansion pass.

My only concern was the GoG version working with my disc based game, but then I realised CDPR don't treat gamers like criminals.

Better watch out for Farming Simulator 2015, it will be releasing May 19, too! Sales for the Witcher 3 might drop because of that!

My gaming laptop can't play it (and I've got a Zeugl-sized backlog), so this news about expansions makes me even more determined to get it after the expansions are bundled to the main game for a low price. Will probably have plenty of mods by then as well, which is good, because this is the last Geralt game and who knows when/if they'll do another game in this franchise.

Substantial, hopefully quality, expansion content for a reasonable price is fine. People need to see the difference between this and nickel and diming DLC.

@Carpetfluff: So true, especially with Battlefield Hardline's "Premium" or as it should be called "Season Pass" that costs $50. The Witcher 3 has great pricing for their DLC compared to that.

These articles are great, because it reveals which people on this site are clueless and ignorant or bitter fools. You can tell pretty easily by how they have no idea what an expansion is. They have no idea what Frozen Throne is, or Opposing Force, or Dragon Age Awakening. Which means they're likely young, used to buying overpriced ripoff scam DLC with their parent's credit card. Regardless they clearly have very little gaming knowledge, and their comments on CDPR articles let me know to disregard anything they say in the future about gaming. Thanks Eddie!

They already have the hype going. All they have to do is deliver what was in the most recent trailer. The lap dogs, i mean fan-boys coupled with you-tube videos will spread the word which would most likely equate to more sales. It's all on them now. People bought blood-borne based on hype and that game is almost bare-bones compared to the witcher minus difficulty. The marketing for this game is right on the money and they already wrangled them selves campaigners. Just deliver and rake in the money. It's on you genius polish bastards. XD . Walmart ran out of the collector's edition today XD. Shouldn't have shared the link on the forums yesterday. You're welcome....

@chromegroar12: Bloodborne is fantastic... More isn't always better. I'd prefer quality over quantity, but fortunately Witcher 3 looks to have both.

If they know what they are doing I'm fine. At least it won't be $25 for a couple of cosmetics and mounts. 15h each for $25 is almost the same as traditional sp $40 expansions. EA in this same situation would have waited and released them with exact same content as described here for full price stand-alone games each, so good lesson here.

it's not that bad, this dlc are over 30 hours of gameplay, you are basically paying 25 bucks for two full games
today almost every 60 dollars game has a 4 hour campaign and some MP maps

if you have the previous witcher games there's a 20% discount in the w3, and 15% if you only own one

@AleGN: that discount unfortunately doesnt work for the expansion. That makes the expansion pass more expansive than the basic game for some people lol.

@oldtobie: DLC is an over-abused standard term that has pretty much erased everything that "extra content" stood for before DLC even existed in the first place.

Expansions used to be sold separately, often months or years after a game's release. They'd usually be priced at $15-$20 or even more, depending on what was added. Bigger games like WarCraft III and StarCraft II offered expansions at $30-$40, and these all increased the game's length and value quite a bit.

DLC started when companies decided to charge players for minuscule (and sometimes cosmetic) content that really doesn't enhance much of the game's experience. Some DLC went further in cases like shooters, where they'd offer map packs, and maybe even a few extra missions on top. Borderlands is an example of this being done properly, without ripping the player off.

Had the DLC system never existed, I assure you, those extras in Borderlands 2 would have been packed into a multi-DVD set about eight months after the main game came out. So in that sense, when a game offers content that's large enough to be a full game itself, that would be considered an expansion.

But because EVERYONE has now grouped DLC together with Expansion, there is now this convoluted stigma in place that somehow makes people like you assume that because it's extra content, it's DLC no matter what.

Expansions are meant to give players considerably large amounts of extra gameplay that could often outsize your average modern standalone AAA release. That is a huge difference than some overpriced season pass that only gives you zombie maps and a few cosmetic perks.

Get it now?

If it's content, and it's downloadable, it's DLC. What you're doing is over thinking. Nothing more. Drawing imaginary lines founded in past experiences rather than taking things for what they are.

Do you know what over thinking means? He's reading into things and making false or impartial conclusions based on that. Over thinking is not being rational, it's not being TOO logical. It's being irresponsible with information.

@oldtobie: I've seen a lot of posts on Gamespot that can be dismissed for being "irresposible with information". I didn't remotely get that impression with Xirtahm's post. He was giving a thoughtful and informed opinion, enough to get my like.

On the other hand, I HAVE seen a lot of posts that are overly critical without good reason.

Literally, yeah. Obviously there's a distinction between a game and content for a game though. In the case of expansion vs DLC, that distinction doesn't exist.

So more game time than many full-release games at less than half the cost. That's one heck of a deal, even more so when compared to the current DLC/expansion market. If I like the core game, which I'm almost certain I will, this expansion pass is a sure purchase for me.

There's more than ample content when you buy the 60$ game. I'll buy the season pass too. Can't wait. Between witcher 3 , Bloodborne, and Scholar of the First Sin....this is be the best RPG'ing I've ever done in my life. 2015 is the best first 6 months of a calendar year for gaming in history; if you own a ps4, at least.
