GameSpot -- 10/10

"Where the Witcher 2 sputtered to a halt, The Witcher 3 is always in a crescendo, crafting battle scenarios that constantly one-up the last, until you reach the explosive finale and recover in the glow of the game's quiet denouement. But while the grand clashes are captivating, it is the moments between conflicts, when you drink with the local clans and bask in a trobairitz's song, that are truly inspiring." - Kevin VanOrd [Full review]

IGN -- 9.3/10

"Though the straightforward and fetch-quest-heavy main story overstays its welcome, the option of joyfully adventuring through a rich, expansive open world was always there for me when I'd start to burn out. Even if the plot isn't terribly interesting, the many characters who play a part in it are, and along with the excellent combat and RPG gameplay, they elevate The Witcher 3 to a plane few other RPGs inhabit." - Vince Ingenito [Full review]

Game Informer -- 9.75/10

"The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt encompasses what I hope is the future of RPGs. It stands out for its wonderful writing, variety of quests and things to do in the world, and how your choices have impact in interesting ways. Usually something is sacrificed when creating a world this ambitious, but everything felt right on cue. I still think about some of my choices and how intriguing they turned out--for better or worse." - Kimberley Wallace [Full review]

Kotaku -- "Should You Play This Game? Yes"

"Wild Hunt is a grand adventure that feels distinctly of its time. It manages to set new standards for video game technology while accentuating the fleeting nature of technological achievement as an end unto itself. It is a worthy exploration of friendship and family, mixing scenes of great sorrow with scenes of ridiculous lustiness, tempering its melancholy with bright splashes of joy and merry monster guts. Come for the epic showdown between good and evil; stay for the unicorn sex." - Kirk Hamilton [Full review]

Must resist this temptation... must... save... for.... Arkham.....

@anakvunky: Dude. If you like Arkham, avoid this pcce of Crap. Buy Shadow of Mordor. Killing one Orc in Shadow of Mordor is more fun than the whole Witcher 3 game.

@anakvunky: there's a bit of a wait for arkham if you cant save 60 in that time you probably shouldn't be buying video games.

@anakvunky@ricku1967: lol, if you get it for PC you could always make a batman suit MOD for the game lol :) that would be too funny lmao

Is the combat as satisfying as Bloodborne's? I'm not a fan of dumb AI beat-em-ups. If this game has combat that's as satisfying as Bloodborne's with significantly more robust RPG features, I'm game.

@bjsampson: Play it on one of the harder difficulties and dodging become as important as in BB, get hit twice and you're dead.

The combats still pretty good, unfortunately it's not quite as challenging as the previous witcher games even in the hardest mode, and after playing countless hours to platinum bloodborne I can tell you the witchers combat falls a bit short. The game as a whole however is excellent. I'm only about 10 hours in but I already get the feeling this could be one of the best games I've ever played

@bjsampson: yeah, bloodbornes combat is pretty good but ive yet to play a game with as good combat as the witcher. All your signs matter (not just quen) and there totally situational. Block matters and is really dope and if you block at the right time you can parry which is awesome.

@davisjack@bjsampson: Monster design is what really elevates this game when it comes to combat. Imagine fighting a bear in this game in first person mode...eh, but they are a bit more threatening than the one you see above.

Imo this is the best melee system I've ever played. It is incredibly satisfying to approach a group of higher enemies and beat them by playing smart and using the perfect combination of moves, magic, and tactics.

Due to all these great reviews I couldn't pass out on getting the collectors edition guide and then spending another $25 on the season pass.. $124 later.. at least I have one of the best games made on PS4 and I plan on putting a lot of hours into this one.

Unfortunately(or fortunately), I"m a college grad transitioning into the real world so I'm going to have to mostly stick with the main story. Should still be awesome tho.

You'll still have to do a good chunk of side stuff to level up to the story difficulty.

Getting my ass handed to me left and right and its awesome on harder difficulty. Games like Assassins Creed have ruined any skills I've had playing these types of games because of how simple and nonthreatening it is to fight 20 enemies at once. Nice breath of fresh air.

I've read some comments that use Metacritic's current non-inclusion of Polygon's review score to vindicate their criticisms of Polygon. Does anyone have a link to Metacritic's reason for not including it? I just ignore any decision for which the issuing entity is either unwilling or unable to provide specific justifications, regardless of its other credentials, and I am not even sure what Metacritic's credentials are in this case.

Avatar image for gerrigen

They said they believed there was overwhelming circumstantial evidence that Polygon was deliberately attempting to tank the metacritic score of games that they didn't agree with ideologically. They also said they believed, due once again to circumstantial evidence, that Polygon had recieved payment in exchange for higher scores.

Avatar image for Unfallen_Satan

@gerrigen: This is a serious accusation coming from Metacritic, and I can't just take your word for it. Do you have evidence? Link to a statement by Metacritic, or report by an established gaming publication to that effect, etc.

Avatar image for gerrigen

It's not my job to do your research for you. I told you what they said about a year ago when they made their change, if you want it verbatim then go Google it.

Avatar image for jasonmzk

@gerrigen: I Googled it. You're lying.

Avatar image for Unfallen_Satan

@gerrigen: Do you at least understand that when you say something about someone else, whether it's something they said or did or thinks, it is your responsibility and no one else's to backup your claim? If you don't, if you think that your statements are entitled to be believed at face value and other people must find evidence to either prove or disapprove your statements, please say so now, so I know my discussion with you is prohibitively costly and pointless.

Avatar image for zerohournow

@Unfallen_Satan@gerrigen: gerrigen is right. If you want to know, then do the work yourself you lazy prick. Why should anyone lay it all out for you, they aren't employed to fact check for you.

Avatar image for jasonmzk

@zerohournow@Unfallen_Satan@gerrigen: No, Gerrigen is a lying troll. Metacritic never said the things he alleges. If he had evidence otherwise, he would have shared it. He didn't, because there isn't.

Avatar image for Unfallen_Satan

@zerohournow@Unfallen_Satan@gerrigen: You don't know what you're talking about. Everyone who makes an allegation about someone else bears the sole responsibility of backing it up when challenged. And I am challenging it. I say he's wrong. I see no evidence that Metacritic ever said "they believed there was overwhelming circumstantial evidence that Polygon was deliberately attempting to tank the metacritic score of games that they didn't agree with ideologically" or that "they believed, due once again to circumstantial evidence, that Polygon had recieved payment in exchange for higher scores."

Avatar image for Unfallen_Satan

@gerrigen: No, but it is your job to back up your allegations with evidence. You are not expressing your opinion, you claim to restate Metacritic's previous statement. It is your obligation to prove that you are not lying or misremembering. It's your research, not mine.

I went to search for any statement Metacritic might have made about Polygon and could find none. I found no evidence that they made the statements you claim they made either in Metacritic's news release or on Polygon's Metacritic profile. I could also not find any third-party report on what you think Metacritic said. I did your research for you, and my conclusion is that you are either lying or misremembering statements Metacritic likely did not make about Polygon.
