Winnie The Pooh: Blood And Honey Sequel Will Have A Much Larger Budget

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is getting a sequel, and according to the film's director, the budget is going to be five times bigger.

To catch you up to speed quickly, if you've missed it, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is a live-action horror adaptation based on everyone's favorite red-shirt-wearing bear that's almost guaranteed to ruin your childhood. Apparently it cost less than $100,000 to make, and according to Entertainment Weekly, writer-director Rhys Frake-Waterfield says next movie's budget could be five times that amount.

"Number two is already going into development," Frake-Waterfield told EW. "I'm hoping that, at minimum, it's going to have five times the budget of the first one, but it could be substantially more than that as well, which would do absolute wonders for the film. That's one of the major challenges.

"It's competing with films like M3GAN [and] they are made on orders of magnitude more. When you have more money for a film, you get more time, you get cooler scenes, you can really spend more time refining things. So I'm really excited for what the second film's going to do."

On top of this, the director is working on a horror retelling of Bambi, which Frake-Waterfield touched on in an interview with GameSpot last week. Frake-Waterfield reaffirmed to EW that Bambi is still coming, though he may not necessarily direct either it or the Blood and Honey sequel.

Obviously this version of Pooh Bear will be different to the one we know and love, not least because of the whole murdering thing. But he also doesn't feature that classic, plain red shirt, as that's specifically the Disney version of the character. The first book went into public domain last year, but Disney still owns the rights to its version.
