Windows 10 Reaches 350M Installs, Customer Satisfaction Higher Than Any Other Windows OS

That's up from 300 million just a month ago.

Windows 10 has now been installed on more than 350 million devices, Microsoft announced today as part of a blog post confirming the Anniversary update's release date.

This is up from 300 million in May and 270 million in March. At one time, Microsoft said Windows 10 was on the "fastest growth trajectory of any versions of Windows ever." However, it remains to be seen if this continues to be true. Whatever the case, Microsoft's 350 million figure counts installs across all Windows 10 devices, including PC, Xbox One, and phones.

No Caption Provided

Windows executive Yusuf Mehdi also mentioned that customer satisfaction around Windows 10 is "higher than any previous version of Windows."

However, it's unclear how Microsoft measured satisfaction, and not everyone has been thrilled with Microsoft's efforts to encourage them to upgrade to Windows 10. One woman sued the company over an unwanted upgrade and ended up receiving a $10,000 reward from Microsoft. That was of course an extreme circumstance and far from the norm, however.

Additionally, engagement levels for Windows 10 have been "incredible," Mehdi said. Since Window 10 launched last summer, people have spent more than 135 billion hours on it.

"We're pleased that so many of you are being more productive and having more fun with Windows 10," he said. "Your feedback has been a key input into the design of the Anniversary Update."

The Anniversary update, which includes new features and functionality for PC and Xbox One, arrives on August 2. Check out this post for a rundown of what to expect.

In other Windows 10 news, Microsoft's free upgrade offer--which is available to select Windows 7 and Windows 8 users--is good until July 29.

WHAAAA....?

Let me begin...catastrophic update settings, tons of unnecessary content and apps, more tablet than desktop friendly, high ram usage, high cpu utilization, you can't play some 2013. games on it, directx 12 is a joke, etc....

I like Win10 though MS needs to not push it on people. At work we're stuck with Win7 and I have to keep dodging that KB33383 or whatever update, which puts the Win10 update button in the tray.

Pretty good OS, like a win7 on steriods esp using multicore processors and SSD. But i would warn anyone to not use express settings. REgardless of privacy issues, it's bloatware decreases performance.

DX 12 apis are very very underwhelming so far. Windows and games need work.

Man, Microsoft must be really desperate, making up crap like that, with a system that they're forcing on everyone. Maybe there's a checkbox hidden somewhere deep in the settings that says "you hereby declare that you're completely happy with this OS if you don't uncheck this box".

I have W7 on my main PC. Everything is smooth as butter and I'm very happy with it. I put W10 on my laptop last year as a trial and I have to say, I'm not sold. The only reason I could see giving in to all the spyware, forced updates, loss of personal control and calling programs "apps," is for the impending utilization of DX12.

Haha Microsoft sure likes to put words in consumers mouths. Scooby-Doo might be the only one who finds out how they came up with that ridiculous high consumer satisfaction conclusion? Btw, congratulations to MS reaching 350 installs by forcefully ramming Win10 down our throats - they are quickly becoming the worlds most hated company.

Either today or a year later, you have to install Windows 10.

So do it today and stop wasting your time on complaining, it won't do you any good.

You've no other choice. Just get over it.

@straightcur: If Microsoft gave back controlling options and allowed me to manage MY computer, I might consider Windows 10. However, the way they forced and coerced people into installing the OS has soured me on the prospect. Even if Windows 10 turns out to be the best OS ever made, I have no plans to install it anytime soon. I may consider it in the future when the programmers and hackers find ways to bring back control to the user.

Not sure where all the hate for Windows 10 is coming from? I have it installed on every system of mine and my families and relatives. Not a single complaint from any of them. My business has installed it on hundreds of customers machines. Not a single complaint from any of them. Go on the good ol' internet and, nothing but complaints.

Why would you not install the latest OS while it is completely free? People do realize if they don't like it they can always reinstall their old OS right?

@bdrtfm: I think the irritation, at least for me was when it decided to upgrade (right during work). I was fine with windows 8.1... didn't really need to change it. Now that I have windows 10, I'm just gonna keep it. But forcing a whole new OS without consent and then bragging about how many people have it, just seems like a turd thing to do.

@bdrtfm: People who like to have control over what their OS does won't find much use for Windows 10. You have to use a registry hack just to get it to stop rebooting after every update.

@pongley: For the type of people who want that control, they know how to fix it so it's a none issue for them. And they tend to have Win10 Pro. So saying they won't have much use for Win10 for something that they can fix is a bit dramatic.

We know MS can make up numbers for whatever they want, but how do they assess satisfaction? Is there some survey you have to fill out once you've lived with Windows 10 for a month?

Or do they just decide you're satisfied if you don't automatically roll back before you even get to use Windows 10 for the first time?

@Moonco: That only works in the short term, in the long term you actually need to have legs to stand on after you're done kicking off all the rotten ones.

Investors can cash out and go somewhere else at any time leaving MS holding the bag.

MS are not doing much for stability and loyalty here.

The Xbox app alone is worth the upgrade. Incredibly handy! Perfect streaming (if your home network is up to par)...

...and if you're running Win8/Win8.1, there's simply no comparison. UPGRADE.

Win7 Ultimate x64 systems, however... Well... Tough call. If it's a laptop, I'm recommending the upgrade. If it's a virtual machine, upgrade so long as you have enough RAM & cores *already* allocated -- can screw up the license validation if you change it.

If it's your primary gaming rig and it's running Win7 x64, only you can make that decision -- no one else's advice should ever casually apply to your main rig.

@Pyrosa: I went from Win 7 to Win 10 and it's run every game I've got at least as good, but in most cases better, than Win 7 did. Not a single problem with the upgrade, even some strange cheap chinese peripherals like my cheap digital microscope managed to auto update the necessary drivers faultlessly. Easiest upgrade I've ever done. It left my desktop looking exactly the same as before.

"Windows 10 Reaches 350M Installs"

Given the tidal wave of complaints of Windows 10 trying to strong arm itself on to computers these days, why would you even TRY to brag about this? Take Windows 10, stick firmly up your CEO's ass, and it will finally be installed where it belongs.

"Customer Satisfaction Higher Than Any Other Windows OS"

Bullshit.
