Will Metal Gear Solid 5 support Remote Play?
Series creator Hideo Kojima says "we're running tests," but final decision has not yet been made about supporting PlayStation Vita feature.
Kojima Productions is currently "running tests" to determine if Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain will support Remote Play on the PlayStation Vita, but nothing has been confirmed, series creator Hideo Kojima has said.
"We’re still trying to put together how much we can fit into the next game," Kojima told the PlayStation Blog. "We’re running tests, and Remote Play is impressive and I like it. So we’re running tests and still working on the game."
Remote Play allows certain console games to be played on the PS Vita. Nintendo offers similar functionality for the Wii U, allowing users to play some games completely off-screen via the GamePad. Blizzard Entertainment recently confirmed that Diablo III will support Remote Play.
Kojima was also quizzed on why it was decided to release Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain separately. He explained that it would have been "ideal" to release them together, but because The Phantom Pain is a "massive-scale game," development is taking time, he said.
However, he acknowledged that gamers have been clamoring for a new Metal Gear Solid game and delivering Ground Zeroes, a prologue to The Phantom Pain, will be a way to satisfy gamers and get them up to speed on what the story is and how the game plays.
On the subject of Metal Gear Solid V making use of the DualShock 4's new features, Kojima said he wants to leverage the new controller's attributes, but not to the point where the experience becomes too different compared to the PlayStation 3 version.
"We are trying to take advantage of as many things as we can, but we also want to focus on keeping the experience as close as possible on both platforms, between PS3 and PS4," Kojima said. "More than that, I would recommend that people who are looking forward to the next generation having a tablet next to them, taking advantage of those capabilities. I think there are things that people will enjoy there."
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes launches for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One in spring 2014 for $30. No release date has been set for The Phantom Pain.
