"I always wanted Harley to be a character that would get passed on to other actresses to play."

Actress Margot Robbie has commented on the possibility of coming back to play Harley Quinn in another DC project, and it doesn't sound likely. Lady Gaga plays the character in this year's Joker: Folie à Deux, and it was always Robbie's dream to be able to hand off the character to another actress.

"I always wanted Harley to be a character that would get passed on to other actresses to play, the way there are so many iconic male characters. That was always the dream for her," Robbie told Variety. "Harley's so fun and can go in so many different directions. You put her in someone else's hands, and it's like, 'What are they going to do with her?' The options are endless."

Robbie played Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, and The Suicide Squad. As mentioned, Lady Gaga is taking over the role for this year's Joker sequel, which releases in October. The sequel will apparently leverage Lady Gaga's musical talents, but the film is not expected to be a full-on musical.

Also in the interview, Robbie addressed the possibility of another Barbie movie. People have naturally wondered if there will be a sequel, given that Barbie made more than $1.4 billion and was 2023's biggest movie overall. Robbie said it's a "knee-jerk reaction" to ask about a sequel. She added, "This wasn't designed to be a trilogy."

One of Robbie's next big movie projects is an untitled Ocean's 11 prequel in which she and Ryan Gosling re-team from Barbie to play the parents of Danny and Debbie Ocean in a film set in the 1960s.
