Will Ferrell to Star in a Gaming Movie

Actor Will Ferrell will star in a new movie about competitive gaming, production company Legendary announced today. The Anchorman star will play a professional gamer in the untitled movie. The role is said to be akin to his Ricky Bobby character in the NASCAR movie Talladega Nights.

There is no word yet on what the story will be, though we know that Funny or Die's Michael Kvamme and WaitListComedy founder Jordan Dunn will write the script. Legendary said in its announcement today that top esports teams Evil Geniuses and Fnatic are in talks to appear in the film in some way.

Legendary was also behind this year's Warcraft and Dead Rising: Endgame. The company is also producing the upcoming Detective Pikachu film.

Ferrell does have some on-screen gaming experience. In 2014, he teamed up with a gaming charity to help raise money for cancer research. Check out the Funny or Die video announcing the event above.

No supporting cast, director, title, or release date was announced for the upcoming esports movie.

The next major video game film is Assassin's Creed, which is based on the Ubisoft series. It comes to theaters on December 21.

I can't stand fake/acting to play video games. I know the advert was meant to have a slight comedic style. But any time someone fakes playing a game it just bugs me.

If it's a silly comedy movie like step brothers, it'll be a good laugh.

fracking 21 jump Street is a strong enough basis as well, not that funny though.....Airplane was funny as F but you say a spoof on Airport and you'rte like how??

1 it depends on what the subject is 2 it depends on execution and writing and 3 we've seen solid standup comics who know comedy inside and out suck ass at comedic movies.....also 4 it comes down to this being a exploit movie, exploiting es[ports hoping to make something like Major League but even there how did that franchise end up?? 1 good movie and a trash sequel that recycled the same jokes.....i've seen enough movies to spot a turd from a mile away, this'll be a turd just watch.......

Age doesn't dictate skill. Experience does.

Hate to break it to ya sport but you don't become a bumbling mess after 40. I'm 40 and I do just fine in online MP gaming against kids half my age. Saying people over 40 aren't as good as everyone else is as dumb as saying girls cant play video games. Get your facts straight kiddo

A lot of people hate Ferell, but i like his movies though im not totally convinced about this idea, in the mean time you can always watch Grandmas Boy for a game/comedy movie.
