Wii Fit U retail version launching January 10
Nintendo confirms launch date for upcoming fitness-themed game.
The retail version of Wii Fit U, the latest installment in the hugely popular fitness series, will launch on January 10, Nintendo announced today.
"Wii Fit U is a great option for busy moms and families who want to stay active in the comfort of their own homes--which is perfect during the cold winter months," Nintendo of America marketing executive Scott Moffitt said.
Wii Fit U requires a Wii Balance Board accessory, and original boards are supported. A bundle that includes the game, a balance board, and a Fit Meter accessory will be available in stores for $90. If you already own a balance board, you can buy the game and a Fit Meter for $50.
On top of that, a one-month free trial of the full Wii Fit U game was released in November and will remain available until January 31. You can download the free trial now and keep the full game permanently by purchasing and syncing a Fit Meter, which is sold separately for $20.
Wii Fit U is the third installment in Nintendo's Wii Fit series and has big shoes to fill. The 2008 original Wii Fit sold over 22 million units, while 2009 sequel Wii Fit Plus has moved 20 million copies.
