Why Bethesda Won't Say If Fallout Shelter Is Coming To PS4
"In general, we never talk about whether we will or won't do games/platform/etc."
After Bethesda's free-to-play Fallout Shelter launched on Xbox One/Windows 10 earlier this year, some wondered if a PlayStation 4 edition would follow. We still don't know if that's going to happen. And now, Bethesda marketing boss Pete Hines has explained why the company doesn't comment on unannounced games or new platforms, and why that stance is not changing for Fallout Shelter.
"In general, we never talk about whether we will or won't do games/platform/etc. If it isn't announced, we don't talk about it, either way," Hines said to a fan who sent a half-dozen or more tweets to him, asking if Fallout Shelter was coming to PS4.
Hines elaborated, saying that Bethesda stays silent in these matters because responding to one situation could have a snowball effect.
"Sorry, but that opens up a can of worms where everyone asks about every single possible project or game because they expect an answer," he said.
This is not the first time the subject of Fallout Shelter for PS4 has come up. In February, Hines was asked if the game is coming to Sony's system and he said, "Dunno." He later elaborated, saying Bethesda did not build the game specifically for Xbox, but instead as a Universal Windows Platform app, meaning it "supports a variety of [Windows] devices."
Fallout Shelter is a free game where you design and manage a Vault in the Fallout world. Since launch, it's expanded with new features and more characters, including those from Fallout 4. It's an Xbox Play Anywhere title, so downloading it on Xbox One provides access to the Windows 10 version for free.
The game is already available on iOS, Android, while the first PC release came last summer.
