Wednesday Addams has been portrayed 10 times in live-action television and movies, starting with Lisa Loring back in 1964 for two seasons of The Addams Family TV series. Now, Jenna Ortega is the latest to take on the role and the actress wanted to do a few things for the upcoming Wednesday TV series for Netflix that would really make this role her own.

During a featurette about the series, Ortega not only mentioned how she went to cello lessons twice a week as well as fencing, but how important it was for Wednesday to be represented as a Latina this time around as that's never been done before.

"For me, any time that I have an opportunity to represent my community I want that to be seen," Ortega said. The actress also commented how the character had been flawlessly done in the past and tried not to overshadow what's been done before but add things to her.

Showrunner Miles Millar explained that the show is very much about Wednesday finding her own way and Ortega excelled in finding her own voice for the character.

"It was very important for us that it wasn't a remake or a reboot, that this is a new chapter in Wednesday Addams' life," he said. "The key ingredient to the show was finding Wednesday. And when we found Jenna, it was just like she was the one."

Wednesday stars Jenna Ortega in the title role, alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzman, Gwendoline Christie, Christina Ricci, and more.
