Update: Xur has departed the solar system to hang out back in Eternity. Here's where to find Xur and what Exotics he's selling for the weekend of Jan. 7-11.

Destiny 2's holiday themed event, the Dawning, continues this Christmas weekend. It's a great time to join in the celebration by treating yourself to some new Exotics from everybody's favorite cosmic horse-friend, Xur. Here's where you can find him and what he's offering this weekend.

Head to the Tower, to the Hangar area, to find Xur this week. For his weapon, Xur is offering The Prospector grenade launcher. Hunters can pick up the Lucky Raspberry chest armor; for Titans, there's the One-Eyed Mask helmet; and for Warlocks, Xur has The Stag helmet.

Xur's Lucky Raspberry and The Stag are both pretty decent with stat rolls of 64, so if you don't have these already or have weaker versions, this is a good chance to upgrade.

Apart from Exotics, Xur also has an inventory of Legendary weapons and armor, and there's one gun that should grab your attention. That's The Scholar, a Trials of Osiris scout rifle that's not currently available in the loot pool for that activity. Xur's version comes with Slideways and No Distractions, both perks making it possible to shoot straight through incoming fire, with a Range Masterwork. Xur's Escape Velocity submachine gun is also solid, with Graverobber and Surrounded making it good for wading into the fray, with a Range Masterwork for dealing with anyone who doesn't want a close fight. The Whispering Slab bow is also a weapon you might want to grab, sporting an Accuracy Masterwork with Archer's Tempo for faster precision kills and Sympathetic Arsenal for rewarding all your other weapons whenever you fire a shot.

For armor, Xur has the Wing armor set from the Crucible during the Season of Arrivals, so if you're missing pieces from it and want them for your collection, this is a good opportunity. There's not much worth grabbing for the stats, however. All three classes will find one or two pieces at a level of 62, but the rest is pretty low. Titans can pick up a decent helmet and gauntlets, but for the most part, Xur's Legendary armor can be ignored this week.

Xur Location

Find Xur at the north end of the Hangar, on a small catwalk near the area's edge.

Spawn in at the Tower's central transmat zone and head left, down the stairs that lead to the Hangar. At the bottom, hang another left and head to the north edge of the area, where you'll find a staircase leading up to a catwalk where Xur waits.

Xur is present every weekend in Destiny 2, starting with the daily reset at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET each Friday. His exact location is always a mystery when he first arrives, as he is not listed on the map, and for novice players, he can be easy to miss. However, there are a set number of locations where he takes up residence, including the Tower Hangar area, on Nessus in Watcher's Grave, and in the Winding Cove area of the EDZ.

Xur Exotic Items

Xur offers The Prospector this week, a grenade launcher that is great for controlling an area or just doing massive damage. Its grenades can be remotely detonated, meaning you can use them to set traps for enemies and to blanket spots like control zones. If you're not a fan of his other options, Xur also sells an Exotic engram that will decrypt into an Exotic you don't already own. Just note that you can only buy one per week, and the engram is specific to the character class who buys it--so if you're trying to get a new Titan helmet, don't buy the engram with your Warlock. He also has the new Xenology Quest, which rewards an Exotic Cipher you can use to purchase Exotics from either Xur or the Tower's Monument to Lost Lights. The quest requires you to either complete Strikes or win matches in Gambit and the Crucible.

  • Exotic Engram - 97 legendary shards
  • The Prospector - 29 legendary shards
  • Lucky Raspberry - 23 legendary shards
  • One-Eyed Mask - 23 legendary shards
  • The Stag - 23 legendary shards
  • Xenology quest - free
  • Legendary weapons and armor - 50 legendary shards, 1,000 Glimmer

Alongside changes in his location, Xur's inventory also rotates weekly. That means it's worth visiting him each time to check out his new weapons and rolls on Exotic and Legendary armor. You can visit him any time between his arrival Friday and the weekly reset at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET the following Tuesday when Xur departs the solar system.

The Prospector isn't a major meta weapon, but it has its uses. The grenade launcher allows you to fire multiple grenades at a time in automatic mode, which stick to surfaces. When you release the trigger, you can detonate all the grenades at once--meaning you can use them to set traps or control territory, waiting for enemies to walk over them before letting them rip. With the right build and strategy, The Prospector can be powerful and devastating, in both PvE and PvP situations.

Lucky Raspberry (Hunter)

Your Arc Bolt grenades become very effective at ripping through crowds when wearing Lucky Raspberry.

This is one of those build-specific Exotics. Lucky Raspberry juices up your Arc Bolt grenades, causing them to chain their lightning bolts to more enemies. Each chain brings with it a chance to recharge your grenade energy fully, and if you manage to maximize a chain, your grenade will definitely recharge. If you're an Arc Bolt fan and have a solid grenade build, Lucky Raspberry can be a great addition, and Xur's version this week has a pretty decent, rounded stat roll.

If you're lacking a decent Exotic to take into the Crucible, One-Eyed Mask is a solid choice. The helmet highlights enemies who damage you, and if you manage to kill them, you're granted an overshield. That makes the helmet very useful for making sure that, when you win a fight, you're not immediately killed by the next opponent you see. One-Eyed Mask isn't the must-have it used to be due to some nerfs to its highlighting function, but it'll still serve you well if your build doesn't require another Exotic in its place.

The Stag is one of those Exotics that's great for keeping both you and the rest of your fireteam alive. With the helmet equipped, your rifts provide damage reduction to you and your allies when they stand in them, making you tougher to kill. You can more rift energy when you're near death, allowing you to cast them more often, and when you die, your corpse generates a rift to help keep your teammates going. The Stag has seen a lot of use in Trials of Osiris this weekend thanks to its damage-reducing capabilities; when paired with an Arc Soul, it can make for a deadly combination that keeps you alive while handing out extra damage to your opponents. Just watch out for players countering with Riskrunner.
