When Does Flick Visit In Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

Here are the best bugs to sell Flick when he comes to your island, how to commission bug models, and when the next Bug Off competition will take place.

Comments

Flick is a special visitor in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. He's a newcomer to the series and if you're looking to make a lot of money to build up your island, he's someone you should be on the lookout for. Flick will buy bugs from you at a higher price than what you can get at Nook's Cranny, so it's worth saving up some critters for when he arrives. But when does Flick show up in New Horizons? When does he host the Bug Off Competition? And how do you commission bug models from him?

Check out our Animal Crossing special visitors guide for a bigger list of some of the random merchants and other friends who can show up on your island.

When Does Flick Show Up?

Flick's visits are completely random, so there's no special way to get him to show up to your island. You'll just have to be on the lookout for him every day. He's the bright red chameleon in the black leather vest, so he's pretty hard to miss. While his visits are unfortunately random, he will stay on your island for a full 24 hours, from 5 AM to 5 AM, so you'll have plenty of time to track him down.

But Flick won't just show up for random visits--he's also the new host of Animal Crossing's Bug Off competition, replacing Nat from City Folk and New Leaf. More on the Bug Off event later in this guide.

Selling Bugs To Flick

Flick will buy bugs from you for 150% their market value during both his random visits and Bug Offs. For example, instead of the usual 8,000 bells you can get for tarantulas, Flick will give you 12,000 bells. Those annoying water bugs currently ruining tarantula farming for everyone? 3,000 bells instead of the usual 2,000. Even for the less rare bugs, like butterflies or locusts, the bells can add up if you save your catches for Flick's visit, so it can be worth the time it takes waiting around for him to arrive.

Bug Models From Flick

In addition to buying your bugs, Flick will also trade you bug models. To commission a bug model, you have to bring him three of the same bug. Just talk to him and select "Tell me about your art" instead of selling him bugs. This exchange will get you one model of the bug of your choice, delivered by mail in one day. The models can be placed as decorative furniture or sold for bells--they are worth three times the value of whatever bug they are modeled after, which makes sense, as they cost three of that bug to produce.

Check out our bug guide for a huge list of bugs available to catch, sell, and commission models for.

Bug Off Competition

Like in previous Animal Crossing games, New Horizons hosts both a fishing tournament and a bug-catching competition. Flick is the host of the so-called Bug Off. New Horizons hasn't had a Bug Off just yet, unless you've time traveled to skip ahead to one.

You can find the schedule for planned Bug Offs in New Horizons below. They take place on the third Saturday of the following months:

Northern Hemisphere

  • June
  • July
  • August
  • September

Southern Hemisphere

  • January
  • February
  • November
  • December

The Best Bugs To Sell To Flick

The best bugs to sell to Flick are the most expensive ones. Bugs don't stack in your inventory, so if you're looking to hold onto a few for Flick's next visit, you'll either have to sacrifice home storage space or stack their tanks up somewhere. If you're going to go through the trouble of saving up bugs, they might as well be the ones you can get the most bells out of.

These are the most valuable bugs you can sell to Flick that are currently available in April, on both Northern and Southern Hemisphere islands. The prices have been adjusted from their original value to the 150% value that Flick will pay you for each bug.
