What's New To Watch On Netflix: Movies And TV Shows Releasing In January 2019

Marvel's The Punisher Season 2 releases soon.

New year or not, a new month means new releases on Netflix, and January 2019 is no exception. Amidst news of a Netflix price increase in the US, there's a bunch of new TV shows, movies, and originals hitting the library this month, including a new Star Wars movie from just last year, The Punisher Season 2, and the service's Fyre Festival documentary. Here's a look at everything new you can stream this month, as well as what's leaving the service.

The most releases from Netflix came on New Year's Day. The Netflix original A Series of Unfortunate Events dropped its final season. Pulp Fiction landed on the service that day, as did The Dark Knight. However, the best thing about January 1 was that every Indiana Jones movie landed on Netflix. Watch Dr. Jones run from a giant boulder, ride in a mine cart, drink from a really old cup, and... see an alien.

Now Playing: Netflix's Best New Movies & TV Series To Watch In January 2019

Coming in just a few days, on January 29, Ant-Man and the Wasp heads to Netflix, which was one of the most fun movies of 2018. Then, one day later, Incredibles 2 arrives. If that's not enough superhero awesomeness for you, don't worry. Season 2 of The Punisher arrived on January 18, and more than likely, it will be cancelled right afterwards, as Netflix has been parting ways with all the Marvel series recently.

However, there are plenty of movies leaving the service. As of January 1, all the Godfather and Sharknado movies are gone; Rogue One: A Star Wars Story left on January 18. If you need a Star Wars fix though, Solo arrived on January 9, so it seems like there will always be something from the Star Wars universe available on the service, at least until Disney+ launches in 2019.

Check out the complete list of everything headed to Netflix--and leaving--in January. If you're interested in what's still headed your way soon, check out what's coming in December.

Lord of the Rings was an enormous flop on Netflix. They only made the 1st movie available, and it wasn't even the (vastly superior) extended cut. No wonder it is leaving so soon, and without any of the sequels.

@P00DGE: I liked the part when Gandalf said, "Run!" almost as much as when he said, "Run, you fools!" But that was nothing compared to the 5 additional vastly superior times he said, "Run!" in the extended cut.

@timthegem: I know you are being sarcastic.

But in case you aren't... the extended cut is truly so much better. It isn't 5 seconds more here and there. It is entire 5 minute scenes that were deleted that give crucial backstory to characters that were otherwise one dimensional. And it isn't just 2 or 3 of these. The extended edition of Fellowship is 30 minutes longer than the regular. Two Towers is 40 minutes longer. Return of the King is 50 minutes longer. The theatrical run was really barebones because they couldn't put a 4 hour movie into theaters.

i love netflix and all but their algorithm is apparently garbage. i often dont know that movies that are right up my alley are available until i see lists like this that say those movies are leaving. Blade and Mortal Kombat were never suggested for me and i watch similar movies all the time on there. oh well, gotta watch them now before they leave. alas, i am pumped about the indiana jones movies and incredibles 2 coming!
