What's The Deal With Fortnite's Giant Rubber Duck?

Fortnite is known for its wild and sometimes wacky teasers of events to come, but the latest is a real sitting duck. An actual, gigantic rubber duckie, to be precise, relaxing in his stylish green shades near Tilted.

It's not clear exactly what the rubber duckie does. It does appear to have a health bar with a whopping 1 million health, and only damage from pickaxes appears to stick. Nothing around the duck seems to clearly indicate what will happen if the community chips it down to zero health, but massive community goals have become a fairly regular occurrence, such as an event that had players vote for an unlock by chipping away at pillars that encased it.
